Hi Marooners,
I just got accepted to Colgate through regular decision and was surprised to find that I received NO financial aid from the school. I was curious of what other people received from the school (roughly) and what financial situation they are in. Was the aid enough or too little? My family is upper-middle class, but my dad works for the U.S. Government so we aren't loaded and can't pay full tuition without being completely set back. I read on their site that last year the average grant was 24,000.

i don't think colgate was as generous as some other colleges. After applying to 14 schools, none of the schools to which I was accepted asked for any financial contribution from my parents and myself. My family's not well financially at all. My father left recently and we burned through our savings after he left, so we're adjusting slowly. We live paycheck to paycheck. I got a $34,000 grant along with work study ($2300), federal perkins loan ($1500), and the Federal pell grant (4050). Colgate asked for $1900 in my parent's and my contribution. I would really call them and explain to them your situation. I think I could handle paying for Colgate, but am not really willing. I hope everything works out!

Colgate was the only school that asked me to pay from my summer earnings...kind of sad. Colgate definetely was not as generous as Colby for me...or any other school that accepted me.

Thanks for the perspectives. I'll talk to my counselor today and figure out if I should ask for more aid, or just go to the colleges that gave me about half tuition.
