So, I'm kind of confused about colleges these days are sending out acceptances. My friend actually got 5 e-mails at some specific time from all of the Ivies he applied to, but I'm also seeing things about people getting actual letters.

So they accept/reject you into the college, e-mail you saying this at Day X and Time X, and then they send you a letter stating what you already know? Just a bit confused.

In my family’s experience, colleges don’t all do the same thing.

Some universities emailed my daughter to tell her at what time her admissions decision would be available, if she logged into her web portal to check. Those universities then also sent her letters through the US Mail. These letters did, as you say, tell her what she already knew, but in the case of acceptances or wait lists, they also include forms and other information.

Other universities simply notified her through the US Mail, just the way they did back when I applied to college.

Some do email and mail, some do online account and mail, some just mail…it’s different for all. I think almost every one of them does regular mail, even if they do something else in addition.
