Cathymee, Congratulations to your daughter. USC seems to be particularly popular this year - I know of at least five people who have applied there, so congrats!!!!

Iof each - Dartmouth!!! How wonderful and congratulations to your daughter!!!!

Msj: Columbia is a wonderful school in the world's most exciting city - congratulations!!!

Chanman, Yay!!! Amherst is a school I'd like to see my own son at in a few years --- come back and tell us how it goes next year!!!

Ryan, UGA is a terrific school - you must be so happy!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!!!

Im hoping honors program but I figure I couldnt go wrong with any school on my list.

ryan~

Congrats on the UGA acceptance!! All of your schools sound great, so I'm sure you will have lots of nice choices! ~berurah

I was wondering why I wasn't seeing any acceptance posts on the Parents Forum and then realized that a separate thread had been set up. (OK, I know I'm a little slow.) I can't possible congratulate each of you individually at this point but know that I am celebrating with every one of you and sending big congrats wishes! I am the mother of a junior and the mere thought that we will be going through this next year is both nerve-wracking and exciting. Best of luck to everyone. The EDers are set and can relax (lucky you). Here's hoping that many more acceptances find their way to everyone else. One thing I have learned from CC is that the vast majority of students find places where they are truly happy and productive. For those of you who (or whose kids) have been deferred or rejected, don't give up now. Follow the advice given on this site and you will probably be very happy with your final result. It is so great to hear all this good news. Please keep the postings coming and I will certainly keep an eye on this thread each day from now on.

Carolyn
I have a S,not a D now applying (D already in Grad School). You are right,U South carolina does seem popular. We found it almost by accident..S had a major in mind (Sports Management) and we worked backwards from there to find a list of schools with the major and then review them.We liked what we read, they offer merit $$ plus honors, and then to top it off, their major in Sports Management was recommended to us by two professors in the discipline at two different U's as a top program. So,there you go!
We'll visit in late winter/early spring to see how it would be to be a northern boy at a southern school.
Thanks for the congratulations.
I'm following everyone's journey with much interest.

My son has just received his letter of acceptance this past Friday. (UConn) Although he is pleased that he heard so soon, and is assured admission to this university, we were surprised that no award offers were made. He sent in the application just Nov. 1. This is not a rolling admission university. Does another letter come with offer of awards, scholarship, honors program student? He is a very good student with high SAT, SAT II's and challenging courses throughout high school. Great transcript. We don't know what to expect.

Lillybell, Congratulations! I would think that hearing so soon might mean that they really want your S to attend! I thought EA applicants hear from this school sometime in February. Are EA acceptances coming out earlier this year, or is there some particular exception for your S? In either case I wish you good luck in getting that financial award!

Northeastmom, that is correct. The website says that applicants EA applicants would not hear of a decision until early Feb.

What are the steps? Do colleges make there awards known in the University's acceptance letter?

Lillybell, I sent an email to you.

I haven't received your e-mail yet.

I have sent a pm. Hope this works better.

Lillybell - can't speak for UConn, but often the Honors College and merit awards come separately. They did for my S at two schools last year. It's different for every school. So don't worry yet, enjoy. In our case, one school's merit award came about 15 days later than acceptance; once came with the April regular decision announcements. Honors College came even separately from the merit letter. You may be able to find this info by combing the website. You can also certainly call Admissions/Fin Aid and simply ask whether merit award announcements come together with or separate from admissions.

Congrats to all!

Lillybell, my D's merit offer from our state school came approximately 2 weeks after the on-line acceptance notification.

Congrats to all, and a special welcome to msjhops's D--hope she loves Columbia as much as my S does--please don't hesitate to ask if you or she has any questions.

Lynda--congratulated you over at the CU board, but let me add it here, too!

I've been away from the boards for a while. Congratulations to all.

DD has received four acceptances thus far; Univ of Oklahoma (her safety), Auburn, Univ. of South Carolina and Saint Louis University. She received a significant merit award from SLU and has been notified by Auburn and USC that she is in the running for merit money and Honors programs.

She has an app into Clemson (Feb 15 notification) and is still working on her apps to Elon, UGA and UNC. Because her brother is at UNC, we (Eamom and I) would obviously love for her to go there since it would make our lives far less complicated. At least when she finalized her list, it came around from her original list which had four schools on the west coast!

My daughter and I both appreciate all your notes of encouragement. Garland, please be watching your PM since we will have lots of questions re: Columbia. Continued good luck to those of you still waiting.

You bet, msjhop!

My D was accepted ED to Bryn Mawr!!!

Tonight we will have a ceremonial shredding of her 12 back-up applications!

Thanks to all the wonderful parents on this site who helped guide us through the process.

wishingandhoping,

What wonderful news!!!!!! I can imagine the joy in ditching the other apps, and am thrilled for you!
