My son who is in Wisconsin for his first year says he loves the snow and he grew up in a mediterranean climate. It is a good change he thinks and when he watches the european weather forecasts on bbc sees Moscow temps and says "oh, that's nothing." The only thing I have to buy for him are different shoes now. He is still wearing his regular ones that I bought for him in California and he says they get wet.

So many wonderful schools--congratulations to all of you and your Ss and Ds. It is exciting to see dreams coming true in these earliest acceptances.

Carolyn, I am so happy for you and your D--Beloit is currently at the top of my DD's list and I was very impressed with it too on our visit last month. I am secretly hoping D attends there in 07--a great school and not terribly far from our home in ILL (but still 'out of state'!) One or two students from her school choose it each year and all are very content with their choice.

Catherine,

Congratulations to your D on NYU, I'm glad she got what she wanted.

All the kids getting accepted now should be congratulated but after all the "blood, sweat and tears" from the CC parents, I think they deserve a big round of applause to!

DS, (the one who makes me nuts), received his EA acceptance from MIT.

So much for hoping he would join his sis on the west coast or his brother in the midwest. He is a semi-finalist for the morehead so maybe he will stay closer to home.

maybe

can't guess what my christmas wish is?

That is pretty awesome getting into MIT. My son wanted to attend MIT since he was 5 years old but when he kept hearing that it was almost impossible to get it (about freshman year) he decided to get real. He is a great student with great stats but nowhere near what MIT is looking for. A friend from his school with better stats than him and with his father a grad of MIT, did not get in. He had a double leg up and didn't get in.

What gave your DS the edge to get in? If you don't mind me asking.

Lillybell that is suprising about your son's classmate! A kid in my class found out he got in yesterday and I was little suprised knowing how competitive MIT is...He had a 4.0 UW, 1410 M/V, but is a mullato which may have been his hook. However, he's a really good pianist and pretty smart, but I didn't think he was THAT good enough to get in.

kat~

How fabulous!!!!!!!!!! What an accomplishment for your obvioulsy VERY accomplished son!!!!!!!!! I wish him the best of luck with the Morehead--I'll keep my fingers crossed for YOUR Christmas wish to come true. Meanwhile, enjoy basking in his MIT acceptance! ~berurah

Kat,
Congratulations to your son. I know how sweet this particular acceptance must be.

Great news, kat! Congratulations!! :) Truly wonderful news.

(PS: Lillybell and parikhs, admission to MIT is not just a score-driven thing anymore, and there is no preference for legacy students -- the only thing that gets you is a personal courtesy review of your file by the Dean of Admissions to ensure the decision is appropriate. And Lillybell, if your S wants to attend MIT, perhaps he should apply. You might be surprised....)

wow, I can't keep up, so many great acceptances, congrats

(I feel like I am having a Miss louise looking through the magic mirror moment :) )

To any to anyone I missed since the last time I said congratulations and I am sorry that I did nto personally call you out (gotta post more often)

Such wonderful places that all of your kids are going to.

As Carolyn mentioned Beloit did sent very personal letter of admission to my D as well. I believe it is only college that took time and wrote what exactly did they like in D application and what strenghts they appreciated.

Linda, It was really amazing wasn't it? D. and I were thinking about how long it must take them to write those letters --- but, then again, Beloit has impressed us in many ways.

Katwkittens,

I am so happy for you and your son! Good luck with the rest of the apps and scholarships. Your mentioning "the one who makes me nuts" reminds me of the saying of a friend: Having kids is like being pecked to death by ducks. :)

Had to laugh!

Great news in our house! My DD was accepted to Vanderbilt ED! We're going to have a very merry Christmas here!

Congratulations once more to all.

I've been too uptight to log in here the past couple of days. My daughter just checked the Penn ED online decisions (talk about nerve wracking) and she's officially a Quaker. We're done and I'm very proud.

I am so excited for everyone I am double-posting! :)

audiophile,

Whoowee!

I have a DD in grad school at Penn and I think it is a fabulous place!! Many congrats!!

And HoyaMom y'all will be in our neck of the woods! Wonderful! Merriest Christmas!

congrats to Carolyn, wishing, Kat, audiophile, and all the others I'm probably missing!

The good news continues to roll in!

Is there a place where I can look up some of these abbreviations? DD, DS, EC, RSS?
Thanks
