I feel so uncelebratory :(. I know for a fact I didn't do as well as I hoped on November SAT's and will be finding out Monday (not looking forward to it at all) and haven't received any acceptance letters yet. I'm fearful of getting rejected from NYU Stern (my ED school) because I'm not sure if I could see myself going to school elsewhere. I'm late with applying to UMichigan and don't have a solid application so I'm expecting either a deferall or rejection :(. I'm not feeling too well about all this. I have a bad feeling I'm going to end up at one of my safeties.

On another note..congrats to those who did get accepted.

parikhs - It's not easy to watch the celebrations when you're stuck in the waiting game. We know that and we sympathize. We cross our fingers for your hoped-for ED acceptance. But.... there is plenty of time, and I hope you will follow the cc Parent Forum mantra to "love thy safety." If you're feeling dejected about whatever safeties you currently have on your list, let's revisit that list. Make sure you have some 50/50 and sure bet schools you would really enjoy. If you don't have any EA/rolling apps out there (other than your ED), let's get at least a rolling app or two out there now.

If you need some second opinions on your list, or suggestions, that's what we're here for. Keep the faith!

Thanks jmmom! As of now, my safeties aren't too great because I probably wouldn't be too happy going to them.

Stats:

3.6 UW GPA (School doesn't weigh or rank) at a Prep school in Bronx, NY
1890 SAT I (1210 M/V as of now - retook in November and am pretty sure my math went up, but probably verbal went down, but overall composite probably went up to around 1250 at least)
Middle class family (1st generation college student - my sister goes to NYU College of Dentistry)
Ethnicity: Indian

Essay:

Related to my business ventures

EC's

Started a webdesign company
Started a company that linked venture capitalists and entrepreneurs
Founded a youth organization at my temple
Officer of business club
Black belt in Karate
Indian Dancer
Chair member of hurricane relief foundation
"Big brother" of incoming freshman to help them make the transition

At all of these schools, I'll be applying to the business program

Safeties:

CUNY Baruch (Its a good school, but it will feel like I'm still in high school because I'd have to commute)
Fordham University (Parents would probably make me commute if I went here as well considering I go to Fordham Prep which is on campus)

Match:

Northeastern University(applied EA)
Boston University
Penn State (sent out application, but they haven't received my transcript yet for some reason)
Villanova University

Reach:

NYU Stern (ED)
University of Michigan: Ann Arbor (sending out application soon)
Boston College
University of Virginia

I'll be taking the ACT's in December (prepping for them as of now and my likely goal is a 32-33...I'll be sending those scores to UVA, BC, Villanova, BU, and any other schools I can come up with.

I'm really looking for schools with strong business programs that I can get a good education from as well as great internship opportunities and post-graduate recruiting opportunities. I'm really planning on saying on the eastcoast, preferably northeast, apart from UVA and UMich. Any suggestions for schools in all categories? Thanks!

Hi, parikhs - It seems that what you're lamenting about your safeties is that they are so close to home. You would likely commute and not have the full experience of "college." That's how I would feel too; so here are some ideas.

My first thought is Hofstra - you are a strong candidate for them and I'm thinking they are far enough away that you would be a resident student. We visited there last year and came away with the impression that they have strong ties to business and industry in Manhattan for internships, etc.

Other ideas: Syracuse, Temple, Fairleigh Dickinson, Babson and Bentley. With the exception of the last two, I think they are safety or safety-match for you. Your stats appear competitive for the latter two, as well, and they are very strong in business.

If you've used the common app, why not add some of these?

Thanks jmmom, I'll check them out. My guidance counsellor actually added temple to my "college list" on this program we have at school, but my sister went to the school for an interview (for dental) and said the area was horrible. Anyway, do you have any match, reaches that would fit my criteria? Also, do I have a good chance at UVA, BC, BU, Villanova w/ a 3.6 UW (~3.7-3.8 including 1st semester grades - so far a 3.8 gpa for 1st quarter) and a 32+ ACT?

Thanks

Might I suggest a separate thread to gather your ideas, parikhs? Not many parents will be looking in the "Celebrate!" thread for a "What safeties should I apply to?" discussion, and you'll surely get a wider range of suggestions if you start your own thread. (Not to mention that this is a little off the topic of celebrating... although all will welcome you here with open virtual arms when you have those happy responses to celebrate!)

Yeah, sorry about that i'll start a new thread. - delete my posts

I envy all of you because I'm still stuck in the waiting game.
