Thanks all. SenorMatador- we have a lot to think about. We live on my income and I have 2 more to go to college soon so BU is not likely. Lots of things to consider in the upcoming weeks. We REALLY like OSU. Have never been to Boston. We are talking about going there for spring break to check it out. Did you get $ from OSU????

berurah- thanks for the special red caps! We are just really happy. DD never gets on CC because she is pretty busy. Last night she sat with me and read a lot of your posts. She is so humbled to know how many people were pulling for her and sharing in our excitement.

jmmom and mini and all--thanks so much--what a great support group!!!

Many congrats to your wonderful D, momnipotent! I grew up outside Columbus and am the only one in my family who did NOT attend OSU. It's a favorite school in my house!

And andi, so many many congratulations to your son and to you! Your analysis this year was spot on and, even better, he will go to his dream school!

Read this tread for at least a couple of month and finally decide to post! DD got accepted by (1)University of Washington Honor Program (her safety)with merit scholarship. (2)Wellesley College (applied for financial aid but did not get any). We have to figure out how to pay for it.
Still waiting for her top schools.

OK, things are rather amazing around here. My d. has been admitted to NYU Gallatin & Barnard, her top choices. (she has a 29 ACT, and made a wise tactical choice not to reveal her SATs). NYU is her top choice, but we are waiting on financial aid - she will be visiting NY during her spring break. (I had to do some persuading to convince her to go to the Barnard reception, she is so dead set on NYU).

I have to brag on the GF of DS because her folks don't pay much attention, but she is a remarkable kid - has been accepted to Wellesley (merit $), Smith (STRIDE), Mt. Holyoke, Barnard, Bryn Mawr, Simmons $$, American $$, Hobart, Drew $$ !!!

Congratulations to your son's GF, spikemom...but Wellesley is a need only school, to the best of my memory. Maybe she got financial aid there, but not merit aid.

It's good to hear from you Carolyn. I hope your daughter is having a great senior year.

Also, many congrats to Calmom's D. My husband will be jealous. He grew up in New York and still misses it after all these years. So much to learn and do, both in and out of the classroom!

Tomorrow is "D-Day". Son is waiting on 7 schools, and 4 should come through tomorrow. I've been pretty well behaved up till now but find I am totally useless today for getting any real work done. Son is in good shape and will have the luxury of hard decisions, but I think he is ready for all this to be over. Best of luck to all the other parents and kids out there who are in the same boat, with decisions coming in over the next few days!

Talk about totally useless-- I have been up all night, I can't sleep because I am just too buzzed over the Barnard admission. We had forgotten Barnard. D. was hoping to see the Chicago mailing and kept nagging me to go to the post office every day to check. Neither one of us had mentioned Barnard in weeks. Even when we booked the tickets to NY for University Day, d. was talking about also wanting to visit Fordham... not a word about Barnard.

All the mail is supposed to go to the PO box, because mail to our house gets dumped through a slot onto a wet garage floor, and all we get is junk mail there. But somehow Barnard has got it wrong and has been mailing to our house. The same thing happened 5 years ago with the college my son ended up attending -- found the fat envelope on the garage floor around April 5th or so, well after we had decided that the late arrival of news must portend a rejection. It wasn't until midnight last night that I remembered to go out to the garage and check, and there it was, a priority mail envelope lying face down. Then I had to go and wake up my daughter... and of course she couldn't get back to sleep.

Wow. This college stuff sure is crazy. I'm still anxious to see what the rest of the week brings.... but of course, none of it really matters any more but the financial aid packets.

Son is at the beach with friends (spring break) and calls up wants to know how things are, he's having a great time, not stressed at all. I on the other hand, a little stressed to say the least. Maybe he will be home tommorrow in time to check decisions, maybe not. He is so calm, cool and collected, no matter what is going on. I think he would make a great ER doc, but he thinks maybe flying fighter jets is in his future.

And yes, the financial aid is one of, if not the most deciding factor in our house!

Congrats to everyone and my very best wishes for those waiting to hear in the next few days. The kiddos and parents have all done a stupendous job.
