College Admissions & ACT Writing

Hello,
I took the ACT test (without writing) in April of 2015, and received a composite score of 30 (26 S, 34 M, 30 R, 31 E).
I would like to apply to the University of Arizona for college (I just finished 10th grade so it’s still about one and a half years until admission starts), and am wondering if I should take the ACT with Writing (just in case they choose to require it in the future). So my 3 questions are: 1. Should I take the ACT with Writing? 2. Do you think that they will start requiring it in a year. 3. If I were to send my current scores to the college, would that make me “immune” to the ACT Writing requirement (if the requirement were added), because the scores are already there?

You got a good score for UofA. Read here and also ask them if they require the writing section.

Do you think they’ll ever require the writing?

Look what a little bit of search on Google can do:
What are the ACT/SAT test score minimums?

There are no minimum required test score thresholds.

If test scores are not provided, students may be asked to submit them for a more comprehensive and complete review of the application for admission. As previously mentioned, test scores are important factors in comprehensive scholarship review. Also, some colleges or majors may require ACT or SAT test scores in order to consider applicants for admission to their specific program of study.

The essay portion of the ACT is recommended but not required for admission consideration. At this time we do not utilize the SAT writing sample for admissions purposes.

Because it’s labeled as “Recommended”, does that lower my chances of admission if I have no writing score.
Also what’s worse for schools where writing is required, a lower writing score (2-6) or no writing at all?

Well, the word itself says it. They do recommend to be taken but it’s not required. I think they will still need your writing score even if you don’t want to take it.

Would sending the scores now help if they eventually require writing (as they see the score were there beforehand)?
In addition, since it is “recommended” and they don’t even require scores I doubt they put a lot of emphasis on having it, but if you have a writing score that is poor (<6) would that harm your chances of admission more than Not Having a writing score?

Some schools don’t take too much care about writing, but if they do require, then you must take it.
