I think they have the best intentions, but most are very uninformed. I think they should fire all these uninformed counselors and replace them counselors who have ACTUALLY transferred from a CC. I speculate that a majority of current counselors never attended a CC and therefore have not experienced how the whole process works. Another idea would be to have each counselor know the ins and outs for transfering to a particular major field (i.e. social sciences, business admin., life sciences). That way they will be more knowlegable and helpful. For example, the life science counselor would do his own research unevitably when he is helping life science major students. The more students he helps, the more informed he wil become.

i had my IGETC done and none of the other stuff.

I saying that if you come to a councelor your first semester at CC and say i want to go to UCLA with a major in ECON, that is what they would tell you to do, and if your the average student without any abnormal circumstance to write about in your essay than that would be the best course of action for you.

I had some weird family issues, sexual abuse, cancer, no money, having to work all the time, blah blah blah, so i had enough of a "hook" to get in without htat stuff, even though ... i am sure IF i had all the other stuff i would have had a higher chance of getting in.

"Its not a councelors job to prepare you, you by all means SHOULD do the reaserch on your own.... and then verify with a councelor. You will be surprised how much help they can give you if you know what you want. Its not their job to decide what you want to do ."

I couldn't disagree more. It is there job to prepare students. In fact I am sure that is in their job description. Although I don't have a copy of one to know for sure. LOL

I knew exactly what I wanted to do and where I wanted to go. I had very specific questions and they answered them incorrectly. I agree that students should be doing there own research though. The problem is when you go to the counselor to "verify" and they give you an incorrect answer. You were a unique case if you got a good counselor.

i had 3 councelors, all were good.

I had far more than that (at least one per school) all were not good.
