College admissions for someone who has gotten in school suspension

I am a 4.5 international baccalaureate student with a high class rank and loads of extracurriculars. I got in school suspension and a referral on my transcript for cheating a few years back but I’ve truly learned from it and another instance has never happened again. How badly will this affect my chances at college admissions? Should I explain this and express this as a mistake on applications for certain colleges?

Discuss this with your school counselor. You will need to disclose this if asked if you have been found responsible for academic or behavioral misconduct.

Note that the common app dropped the question, but some colleges way still ask or ask counselors for information.

Yes, I’m aware. But is this something that severely affects admission chances?

In school suspension is less concerning, but cheating is taken seriously.

Was a few years ago 9th or 10th grade?

Does it actually show on your transcript or do you mean it is in your discipline records? Was there an honor code you violated?

A few years ago, yes. And I believe its in my discipline records because I broke the honor code for international baccalaureate specifically

Unless requested, this may not come up. If asked be truthful.

It should not be on the academic transcript your school sends. You can ask for a copy of that. It is just Letters of Recommendation and the counselor questions that are not seen by the applicant.

Okay, thanks for your help:)
