Why is ED2 a suckers bet. You are thereby 100% committed to attend. Colleges love that. clearly should enhance chances vis a vis RD.
@chrchill re “Sucker’s bet”
That’s the problem with BU’s ED2, it clearly has longer odds than RD even though the student is committing to attend. The unspoken “deal” with ED is that that it is mutually beneficial–the college has certainty on yield and the student gets a slight edge in gaining admissions. With BU, there is no edge at all and arguably there’s a disadvantage. RD had a 25% acceptance rate this year, and ED2 had a 13.4% acceptance rate. I don’t know how anyone can use that data to explain why it is to a student’s advantage to apply ED2 to BU.
You’d have to come up with some pretty far-out explanation of why BU’s ED2 pool of applicants is weaker than their general pool to rationalize why they have such a low acceptance rate. If you look at other schools that have ED2 programs, they go as one might expect–ED easiest, ED2 easier, RD hardest. Hamilton College is a good example from 2020, ED1=45% accepted, ED2=35% accepted, RD=24% accepted. This is BU from this year: ED1=43%, ED2=13%, RD=25%. Last year was similar: 47%/14%/29%. so they can’t claim that this year was anomalous.
Any data on Harvey Mudd’s RD yet? The notices are out.
Cal Berkley?

My daughter was accepted in EA in UChicago, Do you know the number of applicants? The acceptance rate EA/ED1/ED2 combined was 9%
This is such a helpful thread, However, I’m confused by the stats about Georgetown RD. Are these from last year? I don’t believe that this year’s decisions will be mailed out until the end of this month. Any info would be much appreciated.
@paobs12 - If you go back in this thread and read post 265 and 266 you will see that Georgetown already released all its class of 2021 numbers.

Do you know when the UCs will release stats?
@spayurpets Uchicago ED1 and EA was confirmed as 9% by admissions officer at reception for admitted students. Have not seen anything on total acceptance rate including ED2 and RD.
Sorry I have no info on UC admissions. They haven’t published results yet. Last year was early April.
