Hello,

My boyfriend has been having issues with the college relating to financial aid. He has already registered for classes as a full-time student. He also completed his FAFSA application.

When my boyfriend first went to the Financial Aid office at the college, they refused to answer any questions unless he registered for classes. He did so after taking the placement test and meeting with an adviser.

After doing so he went to the Financial Aid office again to ask about financial. They told him that there was a correction to be made, so they told him if he signed a waiver that they would fix the corrections himself. My boyfriend asked to speak to someone in private, but instead of that the front desk lady went and talked to someone in the back.

He was told that it may take awhile for financial aid to kick in, and that he should sign up for the payment plan. The payment plan wants you to pay 25% of the bill by August 20th, which is about a week before the semester starts.

A few days later he comes in the college to check on the progress. While there my boyfriend asks about the status. He is told that a) they will not find anything out until August 20th and b) to check his financial status through a college website. When he asks for more information she repeats herself.

The lady also states that the no, the correction has not been made.

When he calls FAFSA he finds out that yes, the correction had been made that day. I'm guessing this was a case where the college had yet to be notified.

At this time my boyfriend has no clue what he will be getting, and is afraid that something will go wrong. I'm not familiar with the process.

Why August 20th? If the correction was made today, why does he have to wait a month to find out for more information? Is this normal? I know financial aid can be a pain in the butt, but the lack of information is stressful.

The Financial Aid office doesn't seem to be helpful. You basically go to a desk, ask questions, and leave.

Unless things will start moving now due to the fact that the correction is made.

Some thoughts?

EDIT:

To add, the college's website, where you can check financial aid status, grades, and so forth, doesn't show anything for his status. As in, it is blank.
