College apps don't require letter of recommendations, send some just incase?

The colleges I want to apply to (Univesity of Florida, Florida International University, Florida State University, and University of Central Florida) do not mention sending in letters of recommendations.

First I was wondering if anyone knew if these colleges do indeed require one (or more) letter of recommendations sent? I know for sure FIU doesn't require any. But for the others, I researched and I'm still not 100% positive.

Now my second question: since I'm assuming they DO NOT REQUIRE letters of recommendation (based on my extensive research on these colleges) should I send two to each anyways? I read on some places that some people think it's important to have recommendations and to send one or two just incase even if it isn't required, while others say if they don't mention it, don't send it. If I do send the letters, would they consider it extra, unnecessary junk as part of my admissions or do you think they would appreciate the letters of recommendations? I mean, would it hurt to send one or two just incase?

I don't want to find out after the deadlines that these colleges do require recommendations. And if they don't require the recommendations, I don't want to find out afterwards that they wouldn't mind letters of recommendations.

Does anyone know what college admissions would most likely think if I sent in one or two letters of recommendations even if it isn't required as part of the admission application?

For example, for FIU, I was told the letters don’t impact my admission to FIU, but I would still like to send one anyways.

There was another thread on Florida State University (or was it the University of Florida?) where even though the letters aren’t required, people sent some anyways since they thought it was important to show how teachers viewed them on academic standards.

BUMP
anyone have any tips or advice about this?

Why annoy the adcoms by sending stuff they specifically said they didn’t want?

Hmm, really? I’m a bit worried because these colleges seem like they would expect letters of recommendation but they aren’t mentioned anywhere in their admissions application.

My D had letters sent to FSU anyway. Her stats likely put her on the bubble. She sent in letters to show a side of her that might not be reflected in her scores. She is a junior (with senior standing) there now. If you apply EARLY and send letters they are likely read. If you apply late, they may not bother as they are swamped.

Well, I just found out UF doesn’t require one for sure. So I’m guessing I really shouldn’t send letters of rec in since it would be annoying/highly unnecessary? Well, unless there’s something in my transcript/scores that seems like a rec would help deter away from the negative impact?

Thanks for the reply sunnyflorida. I’m still not sure whether I should send in a rec to FSU…

Anyone else have any imput about this situation?

I guess I’m leaning more towards not sending recs to UF and FIU. But what about FSU? Does anyone know if for FSU, a rec is required/optional(recommended)/not required at all?

Does anybody have any more info?
BUMP

BUMP

Any honest (but polite/constructive criticism) would be appreciated!!

Check the school’s Common Data Set-are recs listed as “considerd” or “not important?”

^Bingo. Check the schools common data set or just call/email the adcoms office directly.

I have never heard of a common data set before but just looked it up. It’s really useful (I wish I had known about it earlier!)

Thank you!

There should be something on the website of the colleges that tells you about letters of recommendation; if not call. If they are like the majority of public universities, they neither want them nor use them for admission. In fact, even if you send, those persons who actually make decisions on your admission won’t even see them or know that you sent them. They get a computer file to review with all necessary information and any letters of recommendation are not put in that file.

the vast majority of college admit w/o rec letters. It seems you’re applying to two of them. Don’t be surprised. And don’t send them either since no protocol exists for evaluating them. They’ll end up in the shredder as soon as they leave the envelope.
