College Audition Workshop & Mock Auditions - Dallas 2013

I am reposting here for those who are looking at Texas State because Kaitlin was instrumental in putting this together; a total of 7 Texas BFA MT programs in will be in attendance.

This looks like a great opportunity to learn about MT programs in Texas and to participate in, or observe, a high level mock audition with feedback from multiple college programs. The timing is perfect since it happens well before the college MT audition season begins, giving time to make adjustments as needed.

From the Dallas Summer Musicals (DSM) website:

What a GREAT opportunity for Texas MT students! Thank you KH and TXST and everyone else involved in putting this together. I’ve already signed my D up and even made hotel reservations. Looking forward to hearing about the top MT programs in Texas. We loved hearing good things about MT programs in Texas schools from non-Texans while attending MT camps/intensives in another state this summer. Can’t wait!

Follow up: This college audition workshop was Wonderful! It was very insightful. Met many reps from colleges across Texas. Received free book, “I Got In!” from author Mary Anna Denard and heard her speak as well as participated in Q&A session. Got to see & hear many other students do their mock auditions as well as hear the feedback they received from the reps from various colleges. One school cancelled so TCU and TXST staff conducted an impromptu master class. Though time only allowed for a few lucky students to participate, all of us got to watch. It was fascinating to watch Kaitlin Hopkins, Jim Price, Michael Maresca and others doing “their thing”. It was easy to see why kids fall in love the the TXST team/staff. Watching Kaitlin Hopkins join the kids in their warm ups during the dance call, being silly and just having fun with them was heartwarming. Heck! This mom was wishing she could turn back the clock and join them herself, it was such an inviting, fun experience! I recommend this to anyone who is interested in applying to a MT program if they offer it again next year! There were a few folks who flew in from other states, I was surprised to see. I wouldn’t be surprised if it grows and becomes bigger each year!
