College Board Error on June 6, 2015 SAT?

@sjms71 We didn’t get the email either. However, when S logs on to his CB account, there’s an alert at the top of the page that links to the generic CB announcement with the news of Sat’s test.

@tarheelbound2016 Honestly, did you even read what they wrote? A specific question college boar answered is “How is it possible to not score two sections and still have valid scores?” The number two means one and one, if you didn’t know. You may have forgotten to carry the one.

Thank you msdarcy, yes did log in and saw alert just wanted to make sure I wasn’t only one that didn’t get email :slight_smile:

So to answer my own question, I just got off the phone with College Board and also received a man simply reading the College Board’s statement verbatim. I asked him directly about the possibility of a retake and he said there wouldn’t be one. Guess we’re stuck with this “solution.”

@Kazoo98

Honestly, did YOU even read what they wrote?

A specific question College Board answered is “Will both the math and reading section 8 and 9 not be scored” and their RESPONSE was “It will either be section 8 or 9, depending on the edition.”

Well, although I’m not affected by this as I took the SAT in Slovenia, I get what you’re going through. I am almost certain I got all question right on my 8th section (math). If they took it out, it’d kill my score. Anyway, I think allot of consumer protection services would gladly help you. Especially on a a class action lawsuit. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against the CB to encourage you to sue them, but come on, paying for a service, it being defective and thus hindering your college chances-not really fair.
However it plays out, good luck!

I went to my guidance office to ask them about this problem and they just read me the generic email the ETS sent out. The guidance counselor who runs the day of the SAT said that he hadn’t seen this problem in the 8 years he has worked at my high school. Has this problem ever happened before?? I’m still in shock that an organization like College Board could make such a major typo…

^^^What they wrote, at least yesterday, was quite ambiguous. They spoke about “affected sections” without stating what that really meant. The simple, unambiguous statement that they could have made is: “we will not be scoring sections 8 and 9.” But they chose not to be direct, for whatever reason.

@tarheelbound2016 the website, as updated about an hour ago, makes it appear that two sections will in fact be invalidated (one math one reading). Also the website post should probably supersede twitter

So basically everyone who took the test now probably knows about the situation since CB sent an email about it. I was just wondering if they were going to take out both sections 8 and 9 or only the one with they typo. I know for a fact that my classroom and adviser were doing the right thing since we did 20 minutes and was informed at like 2 minutes left that the 25 minutes was a typo. So basically, is CB only going to grade my test based on 2 Readings, 2 Maths, 2 Writing and my essay ( Since experimental was reading and section 8 and 9 were reading and math)??? I just feel like its not fair to score me on 7 sections when I felt like i did good on the other 2 sections as well!!!

Of course, that would do nothing for accuracy. I think the point is that the College Board knows how its test works.

Maybe folks should wait until the CB announces exactly what the fix would be, then someone with actual knowledge of testing science could verify the validity.

Has anyone asked/gotten a response about a refund?

@tarheelbound2016
Please stop taking the Twitter account’s replies as gospel. College Board themselves, on their own official website, updated their statement one to two hours ago confirming both sections wil be deleted.

“The time allotted for the last reading section was incorrect in the student test books but correct in the script and manual provided to test center supervisors. The copy in the student test books indicated “25 minutes” while the manual and script indicated the correct time limit of “20 minutes.” Because of the way the SAT is administered, while the misprint appeared in the last reading section, students may have been taking the last math section in the same room at the same time, and also would be affected.”

“After a comprehensive review and statistical analysis, the College Board and ETS have determined that the last reading and last math sections will not be scored”

JOD, I agree. But in that event College Board should have said simply “we will announce a fix once someone with actual knowledge of testing science shows us how to verify the validity.”

In my opinion CB receives a big F for disaster management.

@MidwestDad3

I agree with you that the website probably supersedes Twitter, but can you tell me where you found that they update the website today?

Because when I look it says updated June 8th (yesterday) at 5:30PM

@Chrysanthemum14

I’m not taking the Twitter account as “gospel”. I just considered it to be another reliable source of information, as it is a verified account.

Also, can you please tell me where you see that they updated their website TODAY?

Because when I look it says updated June 8th (yesterday) at 5:30PM…

I had an error, but my proctor just ignored it and gave us 20 mins like she was supposed to

@tarheelbound2016 For some reasons they did not edit the time of update but if you backtrack this thread and compare the quotes to previous quotes you will see it is different and the previous ambiguity has been removed. They updated it at around 3:30 PM EST today.

@tarheelbound2016 I think you meant to @ me instead. My mistake I got the day wrong (lol I’m on summertime so I’m lucky if I remember what month it is). But the ambiguity is still gone because they say that some kids may have been on math while some on reading, meaning both sections were invalidated.

The statement that purports to have been updated at 5:30 pm yesterday is considerably different than the one I saw earlier in the day yesterday.

And when I quoted from the statement yesterday at 7:34 pm (post #187), I just copied and pasted from it. So, yes, I believe CB changed the wording without acknowledging it was a new update. Any shred of credibility they have left is quickly going out the window.
