College Board Error on June 6, 2015 SAT?

I honestly don’t think the math section will be accurate. Usually there are 10 grid ins out of 54 that account for 18.5% of the score. For this test only there are 10 grid in’s out of 38 that will account for 26.3% of the score… So unless they somehow make it so the grid ins’ aren’t worth as much or change the curve I think for this test only the math scores will be lower. Maybe not for the really bright math kids but for the average kid I think it’s not going to be good.

I’m really kind of bummed about it because my son took it and I think his math score may be lower than his PSAT math because of this…

Also one thing that I haven’t seen mentioned is that they use old scores when deciding whether to flag a new score… If this test isn’t accurate I can see kids getting flagged the next time they take it if their score goes up a lot.

So did anyone else’s s score go down?

I have just received my scores this morning and I am outraged. I have performed the worst I have ever done. I know for a fact this is due to the College Board’s mistake because I have scored completely out of my score range for each section. I vividly remember feeling the most confident about the last two sections for critical reading and math, so I knew that those 2 sections would boost my grade, or at least balance out some mistakes I made on the previous two sections. So, of course it makes sense that my scores would suffer due to the removal of these sections and it is so frustrating knowing that I could have been done with the standardized testing process had the College Board properly administered the June SAT. Now I have to take the test in October, which will delay my early action application process. College Board, I am extremely disappointed in your lack of professionalism. Does anyone else feel that his or her scores were negatively affected by the CB’s mistake?

@aklu123 Yes!!! My son’s scores were significantly lower. This was his 3rd time to take it. The first two times he scored 750 in CR (both times). This time… 680. His Math score was 10 points lower than what he scored in March however he had been working with a math tutor and had improved his math score on his last three practice tests (official CB practice tests) to numbers that should have been 30-40 points higher. This is just so frustrating. Without letting students and parents see what the scores would have been with the 2 omitted sections, there is no way to prove that these scores are “reliable” as the CB keeps touting. I know there are people who are going to say “you can’t prove that your son didn’t just happen to do significantly worse this time” but frankly to get 750 twice in a row on a section that was only scored with 2 instead of 3 sets of scores is proof to me that these scores are not accurate. I want ACCURATE scores, not “reliable”.

And just in case anyone says, “you are just bitter that your little darling didn’t do so well” he has 5 recent practice tests that all range in scores from 730-790 for Critical Reading. There is no way 680 is accurate.

This is ridiculous. Previous got a 750 in math, 640 in reading and 700 in writing, and they send me an abnormal score of a 690 in writing 710 in math and 520 in reading. Like seriously? Did I seriously do that bad…

Math Curve is outrageous:
-1 760
-2 730
-3 I assume a 710

@WaltzingM your son and me are almost exact copies of one another. This was my second time taking it and I got a 680. No way in hell is that accurate or “reliable” my first time I scored a 700. The 8 practice tests I took before that my scores were: 700, 720, 750, 750, 800, 800, 720, 740. I am talking about CR btw. I thought a 700 was low, but this? Can’t wait to see AP scores…

I think the math curve is more like this:
-1: 750
-2:700

Especially with the ommition of one section

@aklu123 This is what people were reporting. There were some 730s. I got a 710. People were reporting 760s.

@Chrysanthemum14 Where were people reporting their scores? Just curious.

Tested in Texas here, and we had the same issue. However, when I log in it says my SAT scores are available, but when I check it, it reads “Not yet available”. I’m kinda freaking out here, what does this mean? Some threads say a red flag goes off when your score improves too much and revise your test, however the only SAT test I’ve taken is the PSAT. Is anyone else having this issue?

Totally agree. My daughter got 20 minutes for the Section 8 math, and said she was confident she got them all right. She always does poorly on 1 math section and very well on another - her good section got cancelled. She only took the test to improve her math as her English/Writing were 1590/1600. Her math score for this test is awful. Down 70 points. To make it worse, even though I went back and cancelled the sending of her scores to schools the College Board sent them anyway.

@evanizer your scored could also have been flagged for other reasons, such as if you accidentally filled out parts of the answer sheet wrong or something. I wouldn’t worry too much about it, but if you need to then just go ahead and call them

@NJFL123
There are normally three maths sections. (Just clarifying this because you’ve been saying that she only does well on one which I assume that you mean two?) Anyways, all sections are compiled mix of questions with similar topics/difficulty. So I think your daughter may be psyching herself out when it comes to Math. Since she’s under the assumption that she will only do well in 1 or 2 sections and not do well on the other I think this may put a bit of more stress on her causing her to not do so well one of the sections.

My sons went down, after having progressive improvement with previous two tests by 100+ pts ea time… And he’d taken a month long prep course prior to this test. Math, down 70pts. Critical Reading down 60 pts. Writing down 30. Thanks SAT for wasting our time- was to be his final SAT prior to applying Aug 1st to college.

My daughter’s results were similar to WaltzingM and chemstar. The big shock was CR in which she scored in the 90% percentile. Her CR score was 100 points lower than her PSAT and 80 points lower than her SAT last October! She has never scored lower than the 98% in CR in any standardized test.

My ptoctor gave us 25 minutes for both sections because some had the 20 minute math section, while some had the other 25 minute section. So, she just gave us 25.
