College board student search

Not sure if this is the right forum for this, so if not my apologies.

I took the PSATs in October (I'm a sophomore) and signed up for the student search service, not knowing really what it entailed. Suddenly, I've been flooded with college mail. I've just got a couple questions regarding this.

What information does the College Board give colleges? Are PSAT scores included?

How do colleges use this information to decide who to send mail to and who might be a good fit for their school?

Thanks!

It’s not that colleges get all students names and data from College Board and then we decide who to contact. We first decide what kind of student we want to communicate wit hand then ask College Board for a list of students who match our criteria. We can restrict the list of names to geographic domains by zip code ranges, high schools, test score ranges, etc. I’m pretty sure that all we get back is name and contact information so we can communicate with you and encourage you to inquire and apply. We don’t get PSAT scores and wouldn’t use them if we did.
