So I'm obviously very new, but I had a question. I'm a junior and I took the PSAT(scored okay, 215), but I didn't sign up for the Student Search thing. I wanted to get college mail, so I signed up for ~70 college mailing lists. Do you think I'll get mostly spam or things that might actually be relevant?

mostly spam. at first it’s great to be on mailing lists because you hear from all these colleges and you can research them and see which ones you really like but then throughout the year they just keep sending you stuff and it’s usually the same info in different looking brochures or the same exact emails.

If you’re getting mail directly from the colleges’ mailing lists a lot of it should actually be somewhat informative. The stuff I got from the PLAN and ACT student search stuff was mostly junk. Just tons of emails offering free “what to look for in a college!” guide type stuff that was really only a postcard size worth of information, as was most physical mail I received from colleges. However, for some colleges I thought I actually would be interested in that emailed me, I clicked their links and gave them additional information and signed up for their mailing lists. And then I started getting good stuff!! Most of those would send me large packages with booklets describing the school in a lot more specifics and details. Some schools even sent me t-shirts! So yeah long story short, signing up for the colleges’ actual email lists is the way to go:)
