Hi, I am moving from Chile to a community college in Georgia. I want to take summer classes to raise my GPA and take some electives so that I can transfer to a bigger school. I already have atleast 50 credits already from Chile to go towards my business degree so I want to make sure it´s a school that usually takes credits from other schools.

My question is: where is a school in the United States (preferably California since my girlfriend is graduating from UGA and wants to move there after) that doesn´t charge extra for out of state? I know Piedmont College, a private school in Georgia has a one price tuition for all students, but we´d rather not stay in Georgia.

Does anyone know of any good 4 year schools with a Business Administration BACHELORS degree to transfer to that won´t be 20,000 or up? Prferably in California or Oregon?

The schools that charge differently for out of state are mostly or exclusively publics. Schools under 20k without aid are mostly publics too. In California that means community colleges, CSU’s, and UC’S. Even instate, UCs won’t be under 20k without need. Getting need based help depends on residency. They have slightly different requirements for residency, with the top UCs being the most stringent. Maybe you will hear from some who have found less stringent schools, but for UCs it depends somewhat on whether or not you are a minor, and if you are a minor, where your parents live.

No private college charges more for OOS students, but I don’t know of a single one in CA that charges under $20K. If you have spectacular grades and SAT scores and your family doesn’t have the ability to pay, you can apply to some private colleges that meet need. They could like having a Chilean student for diversity. If you know how to make albacora pil pil, I’d certainly accept you!

But you’d need great grades and a 1900 plus SAT to go down that path.

Otherwise your cheapest options in CA will be the CSUs once you’ve exhausted CCs. They cost about $30K all on, but for now you could probably do it on $25K living frugally off campus. You also need to
understand that these are all very overcrowded schools and almost no one graduates in 4 years.

How many credits will be accepted will also be a major issue. Most private colleges probably won’t take that many. The better the college is, the fewer they’re likely to take.

So see if you can talk to a counselor at a CSU about what transfers.

If you can tell us your grades and scores, we can suggest specific schools.
