Hello. I am going into my junior year of high school and have come to a crossroad in my life. I still have no clue on where I want to go to college. I started thinking on what I should I do. Then, I came to a conclusion on what might help me decide. I decided that I should come online and describe what type of college I want to go to and get suggestions from users online. Then I will go online and do extensive research on the college and see if I will be happy going there. Also, right now I don't care about how much the place costs, where it is located, or how hard it is to get in. So now I will go on to explain what I want in a college:

Academics- the school I want to go to has to be serious in its academics. But the students are not so consumed with work that they cant enjoy the college life.

Diversity- the college has to be very diverse in race, religion, economic status, etc. I want to meet people very different from me and learn about where they came from, how they were brought up, and what they believe in. That will be very cool!

Campus Housing- Well, for housing, the only thing is I would probably want to have a very good experience living there. I want to be able to get out of this comfort zone that I have. I really want to be able to treat the people I live with not only as house mates, but as a family.

Activities- I do not want to be stuck in my dorm often. I want to go to a college where there is lots of stuff to do on campus or off campus. I want to be able to try new things and meet new people.

The Girls- Well, as a male, this is obviously is in question. I would like to go to a school where there are females who take care of themselves. The girls dont have to be very attractive, but look cute and pretty. I also want to be able to go out on dates with girls. They can turn serious or not, I really dont care. I just want to experience some dating.

Thank You!!

University of Miami comes to mind.

What are your stats like? GPA, SAT/ACT scores, etc? Academic/extracurricular interests?

Well, at the moment, my gpa is 3.7 and I havent taken the Act/Sat yet, but I have taken a pre Act test, without studying, and got a 22. And extracurricular interests shouldn’t matter because I want to try new things once I get to college.

@roinujo1 Practice, practice, practice for the ACT, although the studying really begins in 1st grade by working hard in classes all the way through school. For extracurriculars, we mean volunteer and leadership things, such as class president, volunteer at local hospital, etc. Those are very important when applying to colleges. Hope this helps.

Did anyone read the first paragraph. I am not trying to be mean. Can we just look at the above stuff please? I was afraid this was going to happen. Can you guys just recommend some colleges based on the analysis above? I will do the research and see if I would be happy there. Don’t worry about the other stuff. Please and Thank You!!

This describes most large and medium sized school in the country that will accept students with your grades and test scores (and that test score is low enough to rule out many good options, which is why you were advised to get it up). Without more specifics, it’s hard to give you good recs. Do you have a few schools in mind that you really like so we can offer comparables?

Look, I have only completed one year of high school. Stop choosing schools based on my grades so far. I am going to do much better this year. STOP TALKING ABOUT IF I CAN GET IN OR NOT. JUST PRETEND I CAN GET IN. I don’t see how hard that is. I dont really care about how hard it is to get in there. I have all of junior year and senior year. I am going into my junior year of high school. I am not taking the actual exam till next year. I already have some AP credit. Just trying to find some decent schools. I don’t know any schools that meet my specifications. I think I need to go to another site to find this answer. I am getting no answer from here.

roinujo1,

As M’s Mom just stated, your criteria are very general. You could find the environment you’re seeking at almost any college if you wanted to.

This is why she asked you for any specific colleges you have in mind. To narrow down the list of most of the colleges in general, there must be more things you want.

Do you care about geographic location? Majors available? Student body size? Public vs private? Greek life or no Greek life? Anything else, no matter if it seems inconsequential? That’s really the only way you can get more specific recommendations.

And, by the way, yes I did read your first paragraph. The problem with not paying attention to those factors is that those are some of the main things that differentiate colleges from one another.

The specifications you listed actually describe every large public school in the country. If you want people to help you with this, you probably shouldn’t be getting so sassy. A few schools that come to mind are alabama, Kentucky, Ohio state, uva , unversity of Michigan, indiana university…I dunno. You really need to Provide more details for me to give you a good recommendation. Some good things to think about (as I think someone else already mentioned) do you want to go to school close to home? What’s your price range? Big school or small school? What majors? Do you want to go to a school with a strong sports program?

Well, I am going to go back and go a little more in-depth onto this. Sorry for the hassle

If you do figure out criteria, try the SuperMatch on CC to get some ideas, then research the schools more on your own.
