1) Northeastern
2) Nope, safety actually
3/4) Originally I wanted to go to MIT, but I was deferred and then later rejected. I was hit hard by my schools and applied to only 5, and got rejected at MIT, waitlisted at three others (cmu, upenn, lehigh), and accepted early to neu. NEU has an amazing co-op program, plus good sports teams, a great honors college, and it’s in Boston! Plus I’m gonna make the most out of it anyway, so it’ll end up great :D

1) UC Berkeley

2) In a way. I was never actually in love with the school, but I always imagined myself going there simply because my brother went there. Now that I am going though, I really do love it. =)

3) For the past 7 years, I automatically thought I would go to UCB. During my senior year, I did waver from UCB to UC Davis and UCLA as the former offered me more money and the latter was closer to home. Eventually, I was swayed to UCB after talking to my brother.

1) Reed College

2) It was always a tie between Reed and UChicago, so yes.

3) More than a year. Reed was the very first school I looked into when I was starting the selection process, and the one I kept going back to.

4) UChicago waitlisted me. I think I might have gone to UChi had I been accepted there RD, but if they were to offer me a place now, I’d decline. It was the only research university on my list, and as amazing as it is, I’m becoming increasingly convinced I’d rather go there for grad school.

I’m incredibly happy with how things turned out :)

University of Pennsylvania

Yessir. I applied ED and got in.

I didn’t have a top choice until I visited Penn in September. I absolutely loved Penn’s campus and student body, plus I really liked the rigor of the Jerome Fisher program.

1.) Carthage College
2.) Absolutely not. It’s a wonderful school… but it’s in my hometown, and I’ve always hated the idea of staying. I only applied because I thought it was silly not to apply for the full tuition scholarship they offer to Kenosha residents and I was confident I would receive it- which I did.
3.) Decided at the end of April. I’m still not completely comfortable with my decision which worries me. Reading through these posts has actually made me question my decision.
4.) I got accepted to all that I applied for, and Oberlin was my top choice. They offered me about 14,000 a year and my parents said they would find a way to pay for the rest but if I went to Oberlin I wouldn’t have be able to travel abroad during college and I might not be able to afford University of Chicago for grad school. I decided on Carthage because of the full scholarship and the pure hope that I would forget that I was in Kenosha.

Thinking about this has made me sad…

University of Pennsylvania

Yes!

I fell in love with it when I visited it during the spring of my junior year. It just felt so right, everything was beautiful and it was basically everything I wanted in a campus.

1) UC Berkeley
2) Yes
3) Tied for first for a while; didn’t get accepted to my other first choice

@kctwirler1, I know exactly how you feel. I got accepted into amazing colleges, but there was small chance that my parents would be able to afford them, even had my dad filled out the aid forms. hug I’m sorry, bb.

University of Florida

Yes and no: I applied to Brown ED, eventually rejected after deferment. If I had gotten into Brown, I probably would still attend UF based on the affordability. I know I will save money for when I shoot for graduate school. However, to be deeply honest, I truly love Wharton (Penn), but I did not apply because I knew I would not get in. Maybe I will try applying for a graduate degree, assuming I study hard in undergraduate years.

Once I started thinking about the situation, UF became my first choice. Really I assumed I was going since I was a little kid, but when I reached junior year in high school, I started the typical obsession with prestige, unbeknownst that prestige does not matter too much in undergrad if I plan to go for a graduate degree (at least most of the time in only some situations).

UF actually has a great accounting program, which I will enroll in. Hopefully I can get into the good combined degree programs they have, too. I am set on going to a graduate business school that is prestigious, though, for at least some degree. Wharton is a longshot…but I can try.

1) UC BERKELEY
2) YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
3) Berkeley was my first choice since freshman yr :D

High Point University
Yes ![]()
First choice since I went to their open house in July last year.

1) Harvard

2) Although I don’t like saying this to people because I feel like a jerk for doing so, it was definitely not my first choice. Mine were MIT and Caltech.

4) I just think that as a science/engineering type person who loves nerdy things my personality definitely matched more with what is found on MIT and Caltech’s campuses. Although the admitted students weekend only give a small view of what the college is actually like, I definitely fit in more at MIT and Caltech’s than Harvard’s. However they were too expensive for my parents to pay and they were blinded by the ivy league title so there I went.

Don’t get me wrong. I know I have a great opportunity and will most likely enjoy it, but it just wasn’t initially my favorite.

1) Notre Dame

2) Well, it depends. I applied ED to Columbia because I basically fell in love with New York when I visited a year and a half ago. After submitting my application, I realized more and more that Columbia was decidedly not the right fit for me—especially after a second visit to New York—and after getting rejected I started looking at other schools with open eyes. From that point on I was convinced that ND would be the best school for me, in a way that Columbia (and the other schools to which I applied) were not.

3) Last fall, when I had a series of conversations with and ND alumnus.

1) Yale.

2) Yes and no. I was extremely lucky and got into the other two schools to which I applied (Harvard and Princeton), and ultimately chose Yale over the others, but I almost didn’t apply. I thought my rejection at Yale was guaranteed.

3) A few years ago, Harvard was my dream. For most of last year, Princeton was my first preference. Once my financial aid package (which was by far the best) came through, I started really investigating Yale, and I loved what I heard about the culture and the opportunities afforded to undergraduates. I was honoured to receive my acceptances, and going to any of the institutions would’ve been a mind blowing experience.

1) Rice
2) Yes, but for a long time it was tied with WashU
3) Rice gave me the best financial aid deal out of the schools I applied to. I got in everywhere I applied, so that was never an issue. Also, Rice is awesome.

1) George Washington University
2) Not my first choice at the start, but I liked it more as time passed
3) After getting my results, I truly started to love GW. Now, it’s my number one.
4) I realized that the schools that were my first choices (Rice and BC) would not be able to provide me with the same set of opportunities that GW could, especially for my major (international security).

I’ll be going to Beloit College. Sort of my first choice. I applied to Middlebury as a reach school (didn’t get in), and I’m honestly not sure what I would have done if I’d been accepted to both. Earlier I was really enthusiastic about Beloit, but now I’m having second thoughts, thinking maybe it’s too small… I like the small atmosphere, but I’m worried about the variety of courses. I’m especially displeased that they don’t seem to have any linguistics courses.

Boston College

No, I actually didn’t have a first choice and just applied to 18 colleges that had good reviews on college pr0wler and were on the top100 usnews. Boston College became my first choice after I was accepted.

Well when I recieved my acceptance letter, I didn’t even remember applying to it. then I remembered applying to it only because it didn’t have a supplement essay. I did my research afterwards and realized that this was the school of my dreams!

Cornell University

Nope, I only started considering it when I received a likely letter

University of Pennsylvania was my first choice from 7th grade, unfortunately I didn’t get accepted :(

1) Yale
2) Kind of 1/2 my favorite and 1/2 not
4) I wasn’t allowed to go to Pomona, which I had a slight preference for
