College Class of 2015: Will you be attending your first-choice college this fall?

1) It’s a non-flagship state school.

2) Nope. I only added it because I needed an in-state option.

4) Brandeis was my first choice but I really didn’t get enough money from them. My school and another school were around the same price, but the other was pretty far away so I was kind of forced to go with this one. Now I wish that I’d at least applied to the flagship as well. I really didn’t do my research.

1.) The University of Alabama
2.) Yes.

3.) Tied for first for a year, then came out as clear #1 after visiting.

Northeastern University

Yes

It was tied with NYU through junior year, and then in senior year I decided it would probably be a better experience for me.

1) Supposed to be Vassar College but may not be because of complications.

2) Absolutely.

3) Since a visit during spring of junior year. It came down to Vassar, UChicago, Pomona, Occidental and GWU. Vassar gave me the most money which was surprising considering almost every other school I applied to did not consider my family to be in need of assistance. Coincidentally, it was also my top choice so I was uber excited.

Sent from my SPH-D700 using CC App

1) Georgia Tech
2) no
4) my ideal first choice was MIT but I was rejected. My realistic first was Carnegie Mellon. I got accepted but it was way too expensive. GT was my 3rd choice. I got accepted to the honors program at GT and a full ride.

1) College of William and Mary
2) Yes (Although I’m not exactly sure that I would’ve picked William and Mary if I hadn’t gotten rejected from UVA.)
3) I fell in love with William and Mary during the spring of junior year when I was going on college tours. Up until then, I was pretty interested in UVA. I was a bit reluctant to visit William and Mary because I didn’t want to get attached to yet another school that I had no chance of getting into. Ironically enough, I did get in, and the day I got accepted was one of the happiest days of my life.

The Ohio State University

hahaha hell no. 2nd last choice, in-state safety. Last choice was an in-state private that I only applied because my dad like half of his family went there and are obsessed with it. And my dad goes down there kind of frequently, so that was an instant turnoff.

n/a. still has a lot of work to do to grow on me but I think it will.

Well kind of had 5 top choices. One was an Ivy, rejected, not really surprised. Another was a top OOS public, rejected. Another top OOS public, couldn’t afford it, top 20 school in one of my favorite cities, waitlisted an and later denied. Then a top 25 West coast school that was far far away, great sports/atmosphere, great business program, fun city/area, and so on. Seemed perfect and I got in, was known for pretty good aid too.

Well I was dealt a big blow when my dad was filling out of the FAFSA and Profile and turns out he really makes $60k more than he told me when I asked him to fill out FA calculators.
And then he told me that he wasn’t going to pay as much as he told me he would.

I know I am not entitled to parental assistance for my college education, and I am very grateful they are helping out (and as long as I work/pick up a few outside scholarships, I shouldn’t have to take on debt at OSU) but jesus could you be a little bit more upfront with me from the start? Not in the middle of February when pretty much every college deadline passed.

sorry, just had to rant. I’m still really salty about how this college applying/selection process turned out. I’ve been looking at CC for about 3 years now and thought I had most of my bases covered and seemed like things would work out something happened in the 11th hour. Guess that was one thing I didn’t really plan for. grrrrr

/end rant

There should be a “5.) Are you happy with where you’re going?”

1) College you’ll attend, 2)Was it your first choice?, 3)If yes, for how long? (can explain why it was your first choice if you want, add whatever to this), 4)If no, why are you not going to your first choice?

1) Beloit College

2) no. i only applied to beloit because someone here suggested it fit with the schools i was looking at. i didn’t do a lot of research on it until after i got accepted and got a scholarship. it blows my mind how lucky i got.

3)

4) well, i had ‘two’ first choices. Wesleyan was always my DREAM but i knew i wouldn’t get in there so it stayed a dream. no hard feelings when i was deferred and later rejected. my ‘realistic dream’ was Lewis and Clark College. i applied portfolio path and was deferred there as well which was sort of ego-crushing so i just didn’t continue the application process. i think i’m going to love beloit, but i’m still going to attempt to transfer to wesleyan next year. no one who i try to explain that to understands, hahaha.

sure add a question #5 if you want

1) SUNY Albany

2) Hellllll Noooo

3)

4) My first choice waitlisted me (Syracuse University)…I got accepted to my second choice (University of Delaware), but they gave me such crappy fin aid

5) Not happy at all

I’m sorry yours didn’t work out^

5) No.

RE: The University of Alabama

It’s no one’s fault, really – if you can’t afford to attend a school you can’t afford it, simple as that. I got into excellent colleges; my top choices out of my accepted colleges were Smith, Macalester, Mount Holyoke, and Sewanee. But when your dad won’t fill out aid forms, it’s April, you want your college application process to be over, and some decent school is offering you a full ride (and the economy is in the tank, your folks nearly went bankrupt financing your private school education, and your dad refuses to allow you to take loans), you take it even though it breaks your heart to, even when your college experience is beginning to look drastically different than the one you envisioned, even though you worked as hard as you could to do better. :frowning: It hurts. Still.

Brown University

yes

I first heard about Brown during the winter of my Junior year, and before that I hadn’t heard much about it at all. I wasn’t even thinking about applying to any of the Ivy League schools, didn’t really seem like a good fit for me. But then the school was recommended to me as a really good fit for my personality. So I went home, spend a couple hours on the computer and soon after it was my top choice. I decided to apply ED, but also had some other schools that were at the top of my list that I could totally see myself ending up at perfectly happy. I ended up getting accepted, and now it’s the only place I can picture myself at. :)

1) CSU Fresno
2) no
3) my first choice was University of Texas
4) i didnt get into UT :frowning:
but im thinking about tranfering after i get my GE requirements :)

1) University of Minnesota - Twin Cities campus

2) Yes

3) Probably ever since I started looking, I guess? Like, there were others I liked too but they were more expensive and not as easy to travel to.

1) Carleton College
2) No
3) Grabbed Carleton off the list for intellectual colleges
4) Got deferred and rejected from UChicago, which was my first choice, and all the long-shot Ivy Leagues I tried

And 5) I’m actually more than happy with where I’m going. I’m looking for the Chicago “atmosphere”, per se. It’s not a fair name, because Chicago has no monopoly over it. Plenty of other colleges have it, namely St. John’s, Reed, Columbia etc. Carleton just has that vibe, out of all of the colleges I was accepted into.

^ If you go into it with an open mind, I think you’ll really enjoy yourself. I’m glad to see that you’re taking it positively.

Just in general - from my experience, if you go into a school thinking you’ll hate it, you’re likely to hate it. If you go into it with an open mind - not setting yourself up to be disappointed, but realistically thinking that you could do well there - then you’ll be alright.

1) University of Michigan
2) Yes
3) My top choices were Boston College or UMich and when I visited Michigan, it was awesome and it offered more academically for me than BC so I chose UMich and now I can’t wait for the fall to come!

1) Duke
2) YES! I was deferred ED. The day RD decisions came out was one of the best days of my life.
3) It was love at first sight when I visited the summer before my junior year.
