College Class of 2015: Will you be attending your first-choice college this fall?

1) George Washington University
2.) Yes!
3) It’s been my first choice since my sophomore year because of its International Affairs school and its location in the heart of Washington DC. I actually didn’t think I would end up going there because of it’s so expensive, but I ended up getting a big scholarship and financial aid so I’m thrilled to be going there!

The University of Texas at Austin

No…but then yes

I was pretty quick to poo poo the school, but when I was acquainted with the honors program my sentiments changed…

Nope–I was pwned in decision rounds…

Notre Dame

Yes

It was that or U of I. I chose the cheaper one.

I will be attending Gettysburg College next year. When I visited the campus, Gettysburg became my first choice and I was excited when I was accepted!

1) UC Santa Cruz
2) no
3) well I got waitlisted at Northeastern (would have been my first choice) but I’m happy with my decision :)

1.) Rice University
2.) HECK YES!!!
3.) 5 years :D

1) Pomona College
2) Yes
3) It was always one of my top choices on college lists starting in junior year, and it became my definite first choice in senior fall when I decided to apply ED I.
4) N/A
5) Yes, I am overjoyed and I feel very thankful and lucky to be going to Pomona. Go Sagehens! :)

1) Penn State Main Campus

2) Not my first choice at all, actually.

3) ^^

4) I got accepted into my number one school, Boston University, but rejected by my #2, University of Washington. Boston University gave me the WORST aid ever. Penn State was a no brainer; I visited the campus and fell in love with it. Never thought I would because I always thought I was a city person, but UW and BU weren’t for me in the end. I’m extremely happy with my decisions.

Northwestern University

Eh. Kind of. My dream school was Brown, but Northwestern was always a very close 2nd.

Up until about February, I was sure that Brown was where I wanted to go. Then I started really comparing Brown and Northwestern and realized I would be equally happy at either school.

Rejected.

I’m soo happy and can’t wait to start this fall!

Illinois Wesleyan University

No

I’m not going to my first choice (Wesleyan University) due to financial reasons. However I’m still pleased with my current selection.

1) Duke University

2) Yep, although there was a period where I was on the waitlist at Harvard and I started to reconsider what I would do if I got off of the waitlist. I didn’t, so… :)

3) I don’t really know. I guess my first real connection was when I went on a campus tour in September 2010.

4) N/A

1) Cornell (CAS)

2) Not exactly.

4) I applied to Dartmouth ED and I was deferred and then denied. However, at this point I like the College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell about as much as Dartmouth.

1) Caltech

2) I don’t really know. It was either 1 or 2.

3) 2 years or so.

4) Waitlisted at Stanford (the other 1 or 2).

UC Irvine

Not really. (Not back then it wasn’t)

My first choice was UCSD, but I got waitlisted, and I had been accepted to four other good schools, and I chose Irvine out of them. But now, I’m actually really glad I’m going to UCI instead of UCSD. :D

1) Washington University in St. Louis
2) Yes, since the June right after my junior year when I visited. I applied early decision
3) I just loved everything about the school. It had pretty much the exact major and concentration I wanted (which seemed hard to find outside of straight-up art schools), allowed me to have a liberal arts education while also studying art, the atmosphere was AMAZING (coming from an extremely competitive east-coast town, the midwestern niceness was a breath of fresh air), and it just felt like a place I would be extremely happy to spend four years of my life. Nine months since I got in and I’m still freaking out!

1) University of Tennessee, knoxville,
2) No, it was my 3d choice
3) I didn’t get into my first choice (duquesne), and I was waitlisted at my second choice (temple). But I visited tennessee and fell in love with it. I got accepted into temple after the waitlist, but after that tennessee was financially better (i’m getting in state tuition as an OOS student, wooo!) so everything really worked out in the end.

1) University of Pittsburgh
2) No
3) It was my most affordable option. USC, my first choice, didn’t offer me enough aid. But, I’m definitely going to make the most of my experience.

P.S. Schools that claim to meet 100% of financial need are feeding you bullcrap for the most part.

University of Arizona

Not in the slightest. In fact, I didn’t even apply to it until March. I’d spent half a year prior to that applying to my other prospective schools.

Financials. I applied and was accepted to eight other schools, two of them being very prestigious art schools. And while I was offered substantial scholarships to each school I applied to, I would have been screwed anyway; I don’t want to be deep in debt right out of school, paying off my college loans for ten years. U of A I can pay off completely within a few months of graduation.

I’ll admit that I originally wasn’t too thrilled with the idea of going to state, but now that my anger has lessened I don’t think it’ll be that bad. I doubt going in with a negative outlook would do me any favors.

Lehigh University

Not my first choice, but really started considering it after I saw how much FA they gave me.

N/A

Duke University didn’t get in.

Emory University

It and Duke were my top choices.

I visited some colleges last summer, and to be honest, the Ivy Leagues (and some other schools) were fairly disappointing; from the info sessions and tours, Duke and Emory became my top choices.

Not applicable-ish?

Well, I got in Emory with some merit scholarship, and I got rejected by Duke, so even solely based on that, my decision was very, very easy. =)
