what do you think would be most suitable for college life - a laptop or desktop? Secondly, what brand - dell, alienware, ibm...etc.?

Laptop most definitely for many reasons. Also, Princeton sells packaged computers with all of their software pre-installed. Unless you want to study in your dorm ALL THE TIME or are satisfied using comp labs with which you are uncomfortable, I definitely suggest a laptop. Dell & IBM are much more practical than is Alienware (gaming device). Also, Dell & IBM will offer a better machine for less. Dell is also great with support.

hey check out the cafe forum.... there are a couple of threads there, on these same issues.

laptop cuz i know my brother's dorm is pretty loud so most people go to the library to study and u cant really take ur desktop there =P

just be smart and dont leave ur laptop lying around...it WILL get stolen hehe

i like ruining this streak for you.

damn u!!!!!! im almost there just let me beat zanty! haha

why not a mac?
i loves my apples.

the mac laptop (powerbook) is the best, most college kids use the powerbook

dells are bad for college, they break a lot and need to be sent in for repairing (a few weeks without a computer at college? i think not)

i would suggest either the sony vaio or the apple powerbook, the two best out, but sony vaio uses windows and windows has LOTSA problems so i would say powerbook =P

is a laptop ABSOLUTELY necessary? i have a great mac desktop and i don't know if i can afford a laptop right now.

What do you mean, windows has a lot of problems?

spyware, viruses, etc.

windows has lotsa problems/holes in it and in college where the network isnt the safest thing in the world ur gonna be troubleshootin and tryin ta fix it all the time =P just stick with mac :D

Yeah, my friend took his PC to college and now it's trash, because worms and viruses LOVE college networks. That's part of the reason I'm getting a mac, along with the fact that I've become addicted to the ones at school because they are so stable and simple. Plus, Princeton seems pretty mac-friendly (apples line the entrances to Frist, the store sells Dells and Apples, etc).

ya apples are sooooo stable i love them. i really love isize =P

I'm so torn! I've used PC's my whole life I don't know if I can switch. But with what you guys have said, and the fact that the powrbook is SO sexy...hmmm

yea powerbook really is sexy

its really easy to switch. the mac user interface really isnt that different from a PC. its basically a desktop with a quick launch

I suppose...
what about transferring stuff between my PC and a powerbook. Would I be able to, say, plug my ipod into my pc one day than my mac the next? I think they a have to be configured for each one =/

yes u can. u just copy it all. copy all ur music onto ur powerbook my brother did that =P

u can plug ur ipod into ur mac as long as ur mac has all the songs already on ur ipod or else it will delete songs

long live apples!!
me loves them.

get a pc because getting programs for macs is annoying, and if you really hate windows just run linux. nuff said.
