College Courses and Grades

Hello,

Since one cannot self-report college courses taken while in high school in the courses and grades section of the common app, is there any other section where these can be reported?

Since you have a college transcript, I’d report it as dual enrollment. In theory, there’s no such thing as a dual enrollment class that’s an AP class, because AP is restricted to high school courses and DE is restricted to college courses. In practice, school districts do odd things.

Here’s an explanation that may help: https://appsupport.commonapp.org/applicantsupport/s/article/How-do-I-report-a-college-course-I-took-during-high-school-in-Courses-Grades

I have already found this link. However, courses I am referring to are not dual enrollment courses but rather courses taken simply for college credit. Because I assume (correct me if I am wrong) that colleges that request the courses and grades section to be filled out use that as a meter by which to accept people rather than transcripts necessarily, I was wondering if this information could be provided elsewhere.

So you’re talking about college courses you took for college credit, not for high school credit (and they are not on your high school transcript). I believe that would be reported under “Colleges and Universities.”

AP is a hs course, as is honors. It’s on your transcript. But on another thread, you say the college courses are not DE.

Re-read that link. If it’s not DE, send the college transcripts. And yes, you report the college(s) where it asks about that. But on another thread, you mention AP. What is all this, really?

What colleges is this about? Competitive colleges will read the transcripts.

You can also report the college courses/grades in Addl Info. Briefly.

Thank you, @lookingforward. I didn’t realize the OP had another thread.

Hello, for the common app courses and grades section, it is stated (https://appsupport.commonapp.org/applicantsupport/s/article/How-do-I-report-a-college-course-I-took-during-high-school-in-Courses-Grades) that dual enrollment courses should be listed as such. My question is, what if the course is an advanced placement course, or an honors course? Since I cannot select both options, which should I select.

The two criteria I am concerned with are as follows: do I have to put one (if I send the dual enrollment transcripts, will the college assume I was lying on my self reporting section) and do colleges weigh one higher than the other?

I’ve merged the 2 threads.

College courses that are not DE are not listed on the HS transcript, and therefore would not be entered into the HS portion of the app. So for the Common app, you need to fill out the question which asks:
“If you have ever taken coursework at a college or university, please indicate the number of colleges.” You can report the grades in the add’l info section.
