Hi, does anyone know if Cornell takes college credits from another college? I live in NYC so I'm planning on taking a writing class in the spring for the requirement of writing seminars in my freshman year if Cornell does take the credit. Does it look worse if I take it a college that has significantly lower standards than Cornell's?

Also, does AP credit look bad because I did not take the courses at the university? Or is it all the same?

I took 4 classes at CUNY Queens College as part of my senior year HS curriculum, and Cornell accepted the credits. However, neither of my Humanities Seminars excused me from the FWS requirement. I ended up with 12 credits that could count towards my 120 for graduation, but that’s about it.

Yea, countryangel, that’s exactly what I am about to do. I live near Queens College so I’m trying to take some Writing courses through their College Now program to get college credit. If I take it in the spring term, will I get credit for my freshman year? I’m trying to get credit for the Writing classes required for Cornell freshman. Also, will taking this class look bad on my college transcript because I took it at a less respected college?

Cornell is pretty strict when it comes to fulfilling requirements, and I really doubt that they’d let you substitute a QC class for an FWS. The only way to get out of one is to receive a 5 on an AP English exam, but you’ll still have to take a second one anyway. To be absolutely sure, you could always contact the registrar and send them the syllabus, etc. to see if the class could qualify as an exemption. But yes, you should still receive transferable college credit (I took 2 in the fall and 2 in the spring before my freshman year).
