College decision between two schools

I have about 3 weeks to make my college decision and would like some input. Final choices are between RPI and UCONN (in state - storrs). With scholarships, there is about a 20k price difference per year (RPI being more expensive) I would very much appreciate any input on these two schools and how they differ. I am intending to go into electrical engineering (concentration not decided yet). And input would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Do you have $80,000 extra to spend on your undergrad degree? That’s a lot of money. Will it involve taking out loans for your family?

UConn is a fine school.

I am aware of the financial cost but this question is more concerned about the differences in the schools. How do they compare?

RPI has a VERY strong EE program. Whether it is worth $80,000 is a different question.

Many EE also go on to get post grad degrees, so I would think about how that might play out for you.

UCONN has the advantage that if engineering doesn’t work out, there are lots of other options.

RPI is more hands on, smaller and a very good program. But are there other options there if engineering doesn’t work out?

Neighbor is an RPI student and loves it.

I sent you a message too.

RPI has lots of other options besides engineering - just not in the humanities much, but yes in social sciences, life sciences, and business. Daughter’s friend went there for business and has had a highly successful career since.

One of the things I like about RPI is their “accelerated and combined programs”. This allows for completion of bachelor’s and master’s, for example, to be completed within 10 semesters guaranteed AND with undergraduate financial aid award to be extended to cover the fifth year.

There are half a dozen or so options, so I won’t list them all, but check the link:

Thank you…yes, other options. But not in the humanities really.

It’s a great school.
