Hi College Confidential, it’s been awhile. How is everyone?
I need advice. I am a high school senior, and college is almost upon me, but I have a couple of issues that need to be sorted out. I have recently been having some health issues that have yet to be diagnosed but are getting pretty serious. I am from NY, and I want to go to a school in Birmingham, Alabama (Birmingham Southern College). I have family down there and I’ve visited and I think I would be happy down there. The obvious problem with this is the growing situation with my health, but another problem is that I have 0 idea what I want to do and I don’t want to waste a crap ton of money to figure it out. I have two other options which are still pretty good. I have University at Albany, a state school that is close to home and is offering me admission into their honors college, (UAlbany is a good school and the honors college perk is even better), or I have Hudson Valley Community College, which is ranked the #1 community college in the nation, also close to home. HVCC is also inviting me to their honors program, and it would be a good idea because once again I have no idea what I want to do. I’m torn between these three choices because they all have their pros and cons. But with my health and the fact that I’ve submitted an enrollment confirmation (but not a deposit) at BSC, I have a lot I have to consider. My question here for the CC community is- what would you do if you had to make this kind of decision. I just need advice. Thank you, everyone!
Without knowing the full details, and taking all your comments at simple face value… 100% go to HVCC. You need to make sure you’re healthy enough for the other options, which you can probably transfer to anyway when you’re healthier and have an idea of what you may want to study. Best of luck.
Until your health issues are under control, you should stay close to your parents and your medical team. Depending on the severity of your issues, you might consider taking a gap year so that all ou have to worry about is your health. College will still be there (and you might have a completely different list of places to apply to) when you are truly ready.
HVCC or Albany.
@brinuge16 : Do you have a website for the community college rankings ?
