College Decision: NYU Poly vs UCSan Diego vs Trinity College Honors

Well I am in quite a fix about which College to select I also got into: UCDavis, Skidmore College, Northeastern, Case Western Reserve. All of these were undecided.

The majors I selected at NYU and UCSD were
NYU: BioMolecular Engineering
UCSD: Undecided Sciences

I am passionate about the sciences and its application in a modern setting. The application is one thing that makes me favor engineering over a pure science.

I was wondering if people who are at/going to these colleges could shed some light on reasons why I should choose one over the other.

Check how difficult it will be to get into your desired major at each school.

Net price at each?

Cutting-edge research opportunities in the sciences are plentiful at UCSD, and there are many startups in the area. What specifically are you looking for from your undergraduate education?

Looking for the opportunity to grow, finalize what I believe I truly would like to do.
My high school education gave me a very minimalist choice of subjects so I haven’t been exposed to much academically.
I also enjoy challenge and creativity.
I had applied to colleges with a high ROI. Unfortunately Harvey Mudd didn’t come through for me.

I am also wondering what would look better to a grad school. Is it NYU’s vast network of connections or Research opportunities at UCSD/Trinity.

Polytechnic is about : US$ 70,586
UCSD is about : $54,123

I checked Poly’s COA and it’s still 64k. The rest of the NYU schools are at 70k.

Hmm, both NYU and UCSD will definitely give you the opportunity to grow and explore new majors or classes. Keep in mind that UCSD’s School of Engineering is impacted, if that’s important to you. Both will also challenge you and provide a high return on investment.

Grad schools won’t look at your college’s alumni network as much as they will at your own resume. (That said, both universities have over 150,000 living alumni, so at that point it’s probably a non-issue). Your own resume would probably benefit from attending UCSD, which would grant you more research and internship opportunities in the pure and applied sciences than most other schools offer.

The question you might have to ask yourself is will attending NYU be worth paying $40,000 more over four years? I’d say in your case, attending UCSD would be worth paying $40,000 more.

@groverrohan‌ Great points, I’ll talk to my school counselor about the limitations of this undecided Physical sciences. I am partly worried that I may not get the major I want. Ill post back with my thoughts in a few days.

Thank You!
