Hello everyone. I’m a recently admitted high school senior and I’m having a tough time making a college choice. I applied everywhere for mechanical engineeing and these are the schools I was admitted to: Santa Clara, SJSU, U of Arizona, and San Diego State. My dream is to work at an aerospace firm. I also am interested in the automotive and robotic side of mechanical engineeing, however, aerospace remains my top desire. Which of these schools would be best to get me where I want to go? Advice from alumni or current engineers either in the field or in college would be much appreciated, especially if anyone happens to be in or was part of the engineeing departments at any of these schools. I don’t really care for a very social campus in terms of parties and relatives activities. I really would like a very studious environment where students are still interactive with each other. Going to the Silicon Valley seems good for engineeing, so I think I’m leaning towards those schools. I really wanted to go to a UC, but I was rejected from all the campuses I applied to. I was wondering if maybe community college is a good idea where I can then hopefully transfer to a UC. Then again, I’m not sure if going to a UC will be that much more beneficial than any of the other colleges I have listed. I could really use some helpful advice regarding the engineeing programs at these schools. Thanks.
Are you instate for the CSUs or Arizona?
Personally, I would choose the cheapest option.
Engineering is a very egalitarian field and it doesn’t matter too much where you get your degree.
I am in-state for the CSUs. Do you think internships differ based on the school? In terms of the type and size of companies? I could definetly go the cheapest route, but wouldn’t I get better opportunities at better schools?
Good news is both San Diego and San Jose have great tech areas. On campus recruiting will be more local. So if you want a job in San Diego eventually, go to SDSU. Likewise for Bay Area, go to SJSU.
