College Decisions - Will the School Be Notified?

Hello.

I was wondering...
Will your school and counselors be notified when you get your college decisions (acceptance, rejection, waitlisted, etc.)?

I believe they are, but it might depend on your school

No they are not.

In my school, we need to bring our guidance counselors copies of all our acceptance/scholarship letters. It’s so when they make the program for graduation and The Wall of Honor they can list everything. But my counselor won’t know if I got in/rejected/wait listed unless I tell her.

In general, NO. However, some counselors have relationships w/some admissions offices and unofficial chatting does occur.

But NO, your school can’t compel you to say what you’re doing. But I can see why they would want to see an actual accept letter (like Michella’s school) – but certainly they can’t compel you to say anything.

Oh, they don’t? But, they know which schools we have applied to by looking at their CommonApp, right (seeing who requested what, etc.)? Then can’t they see? Or do decisions not get posted on CommonApp (if it’s a commonapp school)?

FERPA – and other rules. It’s no one’s business but your own, tama

Decisions do NOT get posted on the CommonApp or Naviance. Your GC only knows where you applied.

^ I don’t think GC even know everywhere you apply unless you ask them for a recommendation. At my son’s school he ordered transcripts but he didn’t need to tell them where they were going. The GC just sealed the letters. Some of the schools he applied to didn’t require GC recs.

Also, my school requires you tell them where you are going to college, or else you can’t get your cap and gown (meaning you can’t graduate). And if you aren’t going to a school, you need to have a valid reason.

I guess that depends on the high school. At my son’s school, the GC sent the transcripts through Naviance and knew where everyone applied.

not unless you tell them yourself
