College Discussion's Unofficial USABO 2009 Thread

Actually, last year's cutoff for finals was around low 80's, I believe.

Quote from IBO Handbook.
"majority of questions should test students' understanding, science process skills and application of their biological knowledge."
"questions testing only knowledge should be as few as possible and they should not exceed 25% of the total points"

Ya... Finals was like 80s...

I was like 18 off :(

And I got raped on the essay/short response...

I was like what the crap is the difference between... front and back guts ><
That was a ridiculously hard test. I've always been better at multiple choice. That test didn't play to my strong suit as much as the first part.

taking it tomorrow! i just crammed 1 full year of AP Biology in 5 hours. now i'm beginning to wonder if extreme cramming can cause death by cerebral hemorrhaging, or worse, cranial explosion....

I was actually thinking about that last night. After reading a chapter of geology, OChem, and 2 of cell bio, my brain really felt like it was going to explode. Maybe I have HCE, haha.

Taking it tomorrow too. I haven't studied as much this year as last, but I'm pretty sure I remember most of the stuff from last year + I buffed up on some of the toughest bits (ie DNA etc)

The cutoff for last year finals was an 81.5, methinks. I forget, tho.

What I'm really worried about is semis. The open exam is pretty easy, just don't panic and you should make it in. The Semi exam is a monster, tho.

Back to studying ^-^

I'm lucky and still have a week to study :D

Ya definitely Semi was a monster

dam, i wish my school had registered for usabo and usapho =(
oh well, i guess there's always next year...

I'm taking it next Thursday! My teacher kind of waited till the end. Only 10 more chapters till I'm done with the book..

Good luck, all.

I'm sorry to say there are usually many people between the last person to make Finals and the score 18 points lower than what he/she got.

Best of luck everyone; I'm taking it Monday.

I've never even opened a Reece-Campbell book and I've only finished a semester of Biology.
I think I'm thus fairly well prepared for the test... it's only three hours and five minutes from now, after all.
I have time to cram.

So, I read extremely slow and unlike most of you, I cannot cram the Campbell Reece book in a weekend.

Is there another way to learn the material quickly? I have my test on Thursday.

get the cliffs ap bio book. read it.
good luck.

You sure? I know Cliff's is good, but... >_<

lol u said cram.
no other way if you dont want to read it.
unless u just want to scan through and read only key concepts.

Ah, something tells me I should probably just forget about USABO for this year -_- (teacher told us like 3 weeks ago about it)

You could get that Campbell's study guide..

Besides, getting past the first round isn't that hard. And then you'll have plenty of time to study before semis.

isnt the study guide a workbook sorta thing that asks you questions? assuming uve read it?

lololol.
its cruel how they have march 2nd as semifinalist notification.
then a week later is test.
