Back in 2009 I flunked out of the University of Nevada Las Vegas from Psychology after two years of earning a slew of D’s and F’s. My dropout semester my GPA fell below 1.2.
Unemployed and lacking in experience I turned to what I can professionally call as, “exotic dance performance” to make ends meet, which lasted for about a year and a half after realizing how degrading it got I quit to move to Los Angeles to become either an actress or a singer.
The climate of the entertainment industry was literally a fight to the death, I auditioned for roles and played an extra in several high and low profile productions. I was an extra in some various MTV show productions. I appeared as an extra in music videos for Amy Winehouse, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Usher, Drake.
After picking up various connections in the entertainment industry I was able to showcase my vocalistic abilities and audition as a backup singer. I’ve sung background vocals on reality shows such as Dancing With the Stars and American Idol and i’ve been doing that since 2012. Although they paid well it still wasn’t enough I never felt complete without my degree even more so I didn’t want to be a backup singer my whole life.
My next to apply to community college at Los Angeles City College in late 2015, I started classes in the fall of 2016 studying to earn an associates in Political Science. I’ve come a long way from having a 1.2> GPA in 2009 to a near 4.0 (3.93 GPA) in 2017 I am expecting to graduate from community college in Spring 2018.
Career goal-wise I want to work in the corporate / legal side of the entertainment industry. I want to be an entertainment industry attorney who’d work with high profile artists to arrange agreements and between artists and their labels / studios.
I am hoping to earn a Bachelors in Political Science from Columbia General Studies before going to Law School hopefully Columbia Law School in the not so distant future do I have a good chance for admissions and will my previous GPA from 8 years ago impact the admissions process?
