On that Thursday morning as I entered the world of high school I looked within myself in an attempt to learn who I am. As I stroll around the cafeteria in a dazed and confused I realized that I am part of the American Dream. My father having moved to the U.S to escape a nation at war, coming here for a chance at success. Through hard work and dedication he had succeeded in life. His accomplishments in life impact who I am and how I want to live my life. One of these goals being attending college in which I would be the first male in our family to do.

Being a Palestinian-American with an unique character, custom, and tradition, the Latin word mores would define (my name) the best. Having a unique culture in my family has molded and shaped my personal to who I am right now. Transition to a large high school was tough for me is that I was used to association with few people and always being with my family. I undertook a dramatic change when I entered school my freshman year. Being I began my first day my father took me to his room and said, “(my name), remember who you are and don’t let anyone change it”. I took what she said with me for the rest of my highschool career. As school began I looked for different ways to be included. The first thing that struck me was to join the football team, which figured to be a good way to make friends. As practices went on I grew to be good friends with most of the team, this helped me to feel more comfortable with myself and also discover who was the real me. After completing four years of football the sport embedded qualities in me that will last a lifetime. Qualities such as hard work, dedication, mental toughness, and teamwork which all can be used to be a successful person in the real world.
Now as I see myself in college I look back and see that I have grown as a person. I have overcame discrimination and racism for many years, but I will not turn my head away for where my sights are set. My drive and passion to be the best I can possible be is the reason I am where I am at today. My goals for life are set high and far, but with determination and consistency there is nothing to stop me. As I stand where I am today, I look forward to overcoming challenges and to achieving my goals in life. “Shoot for the moon and if you miss you will still be among the stars.”
