FSU Essay International Student

Hello guys, this is my first post in this forum, I have been reading for quiet some time already, and I finally decided to register to become an active member of the community.

I reached my application season. And I am struggling with my essays. Specially since there seems to be a special prompt for each college which makes applying a time consuming process...but here I go, this is prompt :

"Your essay should be no longer than 500 words.

For almost one hundred years, the Latin words, "Vires, Artes, Mores" have been the guiding philosophy behind Florida State University. Vires signifies strength of all kinds - moral, physical, and intellectual; Artes alludes to the beauty of intellectual pursuits as exemplified in skill, craft, or art; and Mores refers to character, custom, or tradition. Describe how one or more of the values embodied in these concepts are reflected in your life."

if anybody is willing to read and criticize my essay, and give me some helpful tips and tweaks, I will gladly appreciate it

Thank you in advance ! :D

There is a very simple trick to these kinds of essay prompts that once you learn, youcan apply over and over and over again: Follow these steps:

  1. IGNORE THE PROMPT!
  2. WRITE A PERSONAL ESSAY
…a. Choose a moment in you life that was important to you and write a paragraph describing that moment. Make it visual. This will be the first paragraph of your essay.
…b. Think about how the moment changed you from that moment itself to now. Who are you now.
…c. Write the last paragraph of your essay (remember - still ignoring the prompt), by referring back to that moment and then describing who you are now - changed and stronger for it.
…d. Then write the middle (with however many words you have left over), illustrating how you got from that moment to who you are now.
…e. That is your base essay you can now adapt to many, many prompts.
  3. ONLY NOW GO BACK TO THE PROMPT AND ADD SOME WORDS TO THE END TO APPLY IT TO YOUR ESSAY… kind of like this:

First, you have your essay/personal statement showing transition from the moment described in the first paragraph to the final look at who you are. Then you add something like…
*
From all of this, I emerged stronger, and I am growing in that strength every day.

“Vires, Artes, Mores” implies more than static strength, artistic endeavors, and character. It also implies a quest to become stronger yet, to continue to seek out the beauty of art and improve craftsmanship, and to set higher and higher moral goals.

*

etc… etc… BS… BS… You get the idea. It is much simpler than you think…

You can apply the same essay to all kinds of prompts. For example “Chose a quote that you feel applies to you and tell us how.” TOTALLY SIMPLE: Now that you have the essay (done ignoring the prompt), you now google some key words from your essay and add the word “quote” to the search terms. In seconds you’ll have hundreds of quotes. Now choose the quote that best applies to the essay and list the quote at the beginning and refer back to it at the end, applying it to YOU.

Well, I basically did something similar to what you just showed me here…do you mind having a read of my essay and give me some tips on it?

anybody willing to read my essay and give me some comments?

anybody willing to atleast give it a read? please…? :frowning: It will be greatly appreciated
