I am starting to write my colleges essay. I have no idea where to start!!! I want to write about why I received 3.0's my freshman year (because I wanted to go to art school) and how I quickly turned that around and started receiveing 4.0's and higher then on. Is this a good topic??? Please Help a fellow CC peer!!!!!!!

For ideas on how to think about writing a college essay, see:

But would this be a good topic?

no...I don't think it's a very suitable topic. Imo, it presents yourself as someone who only works for profit, someone who received 3.0's because he or she didn't need higher to get into art school. Colleges like to see that someone works for the sake of learning (remember, it is higher level education you want) and challenges himself or herself at whim. At the same time, it does explain why you did get 3.0's, but I think that content is better left for the additional information section.

I agree with RememberMe. Your topic is too narrow, and if the purpose of the essay is to reveal something about yourself that can't be found elsewhere in your application, you've missed the mark. My D is using a great little workbook that is helping her get started on tossing around ideas for her essay. It's "McGraw-Hill's Writing an Outstanding College Application Essay." It helps you find something you are passionate about, picking a few themes about yourself that you want to convey to the admissions people, and a step-by-step exercise on actually writing it. Good luck!
