Hi! I’m a future undergraduate and current senior in high school. I wrote two colleges essays for my Common App essay prompt and then separate essays for universities. One of my essays is on wildlife photography and how I have considered it as a serious passion and my other essays is about how the caste system in India played a big part in my life. Which one should I choose for the University of Wisconsin Madison?
Your essay should be about YOU. The topic you choose should be a backdrop to what you’re telling the school about yourself.
You should use whichever essay best sells your application.
I would go with essay on photography as it tells something about your passion.
How can anyone possibly answer that question without actually reading the essays?
I’d say go with whatever essay reveals the most about you and shows your strengths and passions. You’re trying to “market yourself” to the school, so choose the piece that does this most effectively. As mentioned above, we can’t really give specific input as we have limited information on the essays. If you want a more in-depth analysis, you could check with one of the essay readers on the “consolidated list of CC essay readers” thread or I’d be happy to read them and give my thoughts (as a listed reader on that thread). Best of luck!
