I am currently a high school senior who will be applying soon. I have a 4.2 weighted GPA and a 35 on my ACT as well as several extracurriculars and I plan to major in biology on a pre-med track. I’m considering Case Western Reserve University, UW Madison, Georgetown University, UNC - Chapel Hill, University of Miami, Emory University, and Tulane University. Does have experiences they can share about any of these schools? I’m still trying to narrow my options down…
As a suggestion regarding your list in general, the University of Rochester fits your mix of schools and might make a good addition.
You may want to check if the college has a pre-med committee that will endorse your application to medical school or refuse to if it believes that your chances are poor (note that most pre-meds who apply do not get into any medical schools).
In the refusal case, would be happy that you know early that you need to switch to plan B, skipping the expensive, stressful, and probably futile process of applying to medical schools, or sad because whatever small chance you had (which you would have wanted to try for anyway) goes to zero?
An interesting list, as they all have medical schools, too.
Know physicians who went to all those schools except UNC and UW, but that doesn’t really mean much. All the schools listed have great reputations and solid results regarding people getting into medical school.
But I think you’re getting a bit ahead of yourself. Have you visited any of these schools? Students generally do better if they are someplace(ie college) where they want to be. And can you afford them? Medical school is insanely expensive, so you’ll want to limit undergraduate debt.
So you can’t go wrong with any of those schools, but you may want to visit/consider expense of undergrad before setting your sights on medical school.
I visited Case Western and Madison and I liked both a lot. But I was wondering, what colleges then do you think would be safer choices in terms of tuition? I know Madison and UNC aren’t extremely expensive but I know the others are…
You need to do the NPC on every school.
Where is in-state for you? And have you and your parents determined what you can afford? The private schools are all expensive, and if you’re OOS for Madison and Chapel Hill, that will be expensive, too. You’ve got time; I strongly suggest you run the numbers as soon as possible.
