College Fashion Trend: Crocs

I see some people wearing crocs up at my college and I’ve been wondering if I should invest in some? Are they really that bad or should I just go for it?

College is a time that you should begin forging your own trends and not putting emphasis on what other people are doing or wearing, just my two cents.

I thought crocs had gone the way of the dodo. If not, they should. What do I know though, I’m a middle aged mom. If you like them and think they are cool, why not?

As winter is coming, I would not suggest crocs. They have no back and have holes in them.

Watch for the trend in winter boots and buy them instead.

NOOOOOOOO!!!

(just my own personal opinion of Crocs)

@bopper There are some without holes in them, but they don’t really look good to me.

To everyone else: I will wear them for convenience instead of having to tie my shoes every time I want to go out to do a quick errand. Overall, isn’t it just easier to slide on something and go? Now, I’ll only wear shoes/boots if it’s too cold outside for slide shoes; also if it’s snowing as well. From getting late night food to getting the mail back at home, crocs are pretty helpful in those situations. Slide flip flops are helpful too, but it’s always nice to have a variety of shoes because: What if your only pair of shower shoes break? (This has happened to me before) Then you’ll be stuck in a sticky situation. Borrowing your roommate’s shower shoes until you get new ones might not be the best option if that ever happened to you, but in this case, it’s your only option.

If you want them so much, then get them.

There are all kinds of slip on type shoes, loafers, etc. that are more attractive IMO if ease of getting on/off is the goal but if you like them, go for it.

When I was in undergrad crocs were definitely in style … as shower shoes! (Really though, much better than flip flop for icky dorm showers!)

I’ve been wearing crocs ballet flats (not the classic clogs, which I can’t stand) as my primary shoes since middle school haha… so it wasn’t part of the college trend for me (I’m a senior in college now). They’re so much more comfortable and you don’t have to worry about rain! They’re also more convenient cuz I don’t have to deal with laces or straps. I also use crocs flip flops as shower shoes, and even have a pair of dress crocs! (I’m also on the spectrum, so maybe that has something to do with it)

My DD, HS senior, had been wearing crocs (again) for about 7 months. It is a “thing” again at her HS. Not everyone is wearing them, but there are more than “a few”. She is gunning hard to restart the trend. And yeah the jibbets (sp?) are also an important part of the look.

I called it is almost a year ago when I saw little Prince George wearing them…I said well that trend will be back! My DD laughed at me and said “just NO”…yeah, who is laughing now!

My D’s last boyfriend only wore crocs. I think they are hideous, though not as much so as Birkenstocks, which I abhor. I was SO happy when she broke up with Mr. Croc. Her current bf wears shoes I can bear to look at.

I have to laugh whenever I pass the Croc store in Manhattan. I don’t think anyone past kindergarten should wear them. I use water shoes in the shower at the gym.

Ooh, that sounded bad. I wasn’t happy she broke up with just because he wore crocs, but because he cheated on her.

I’m a mom and I love Crocs. They are really comfortable and yes, very convienient when you want to just slip on something and go. My teenage daughter has a couple of pairs too - yes, they are trendy again.

OP, take a look on the Croc website and you’ll find a whole variety of crocs - many different styles, and some don’t look so croc-y. I have a pair of croc rainboots.

My daughter likes to follow the trends - that’s why she got hers. I could care less about what people think - I dress for comfort.

I say go for it dude

I heard the Disney Lightning McQueen are one of the popular ones. Ka-chow!

Slip ons (like Vans), boat shoes (like Sperry’s), and flip flops are always a better choice

This post makes me smile. My D’s common app essay is about her crocs.

This is a funny post. My two high schoolers have always despised crocs, ever since their classmates started wearing them in elementary school. Their dislike is kind of extreme - my kids rarely mention what other people wear, but always comment negatively if they see someone in crocs. I put up with it until my kids started lumping Birkenstocks in with crocs. Birkenstocks were my absolute favorite shoes in high school and I live in an area where many people wear and have worn them without interruption for decades, trends or no trends. They are not in the same category! (To each their own, but Birks are fabulous in my book.)

I told my d19 about this thread and it made her happy because she’s had crocs for the last 4-5 years, loves them and wears them regularly. She currently has 2 pair, one is a Mickey croc and the other is purple and covered with Disney jibbitz. Finally she is trendy! Lol.

Most other slip on shoes don’t work as well for either of my girls since their heels are really narrow. Believe me, they’ve tried. But as another poster said, there are options like Vans that are slip on if you want the convenience in a different style.

OP, if you like them then get them. That simple. I have Mary Jane style crocs that I get compliments for wearing from women of a variety of ages. I only wear them in nice weather though. I wear slip on leather Merrell or sketchers when it’s worse weather.
