and yet the team from the SEC still won it all, I'm pretty sure that the SEC isn't overrated.

Wow the SEC overrated!!! First of all LSU was undefeated in regulation last year. Secondly USC like Florida and LSU over the past two years will destroy OSU.

OSU will be lucky if they arent embarrassed again.

Umm.. ok??

After 4 quarters in every game last year LSU either won or was tied. Overall record of 10-0-2.

Who would you have had play OSU in the national championship game last year. Georgia who did not win the SEC, USC who lost to Stanford, Kansas or Missouri who lost thier conference Championship. Oklahoma who also lost 2 games in regulation. West Virginia who lost thier conference title or Va Tech who got hammered by LSU earlier in the season.

What, no talk about the Fighting Irish?

This is AMERICAN FOOTBALL we're talking about.. there's no such thing as a "Tie" in the official standings. They go to OVERTIME until there is a WINNER.

Everyone is sidestepping the fact that the Big XII right now is the best conference in college football. They went 12-0 last weekend! And have 5 teams in the top 13.

Umm, while I'm actually not one to disagree with the Big XII being the best right now (it's pretty obvious they are), sweeping the table in the pre-conference season isn't a big deal- the Big Ten did too.

^ To be fair, Big12 is beating up on teams that are worse than bad.

SEC > Big12 > Pac10 > Big10 >> ACC/Big East =P

And Sly Si, Bears are back baby! The trees are not.

Explain to me how the Pac 10 is better, on the whole, than the Big Ten. Other than USC being better than OSU (which I think, though that's yet to be proven), I count the same number of Big Ten teams in the AP and Coaches' poll as Pac 10 teams.

It's mostly my personal bias, but I think the top four Pac10 teams (USC, Oregon, ASU, and Cal) would beat the top four Big10 teams (OSU, Wisconsin, Penn State, and Illinois) any day. Both conferences have their dud teams, though.

Also, rankings this early in the season are meaningless.

Personally, I tend to think the problem with the Big Ten, as compared to other conferences, is that it mostly just plays slower football. I feel like that's transitioning somewhat, and speed is becoming more important, but Big Ten style of play simply doesn't compete well against the SEC's big and fast play, or the Pac 10's monster plays (ok, I like the Pac 10 too...).

Penn State would dominate any of the Pac 10 teams, minus USC. We did destroy one of your teams this past weekend, even if it was just oregon state. I think it would be a close game, but I think USC is the best team in the country. After USC destroys Ohio State, we can stop hearing about this buckeye "greatness" and Penn State will take its place at the top. Daryll Clark in the heisman hunt next year.

Cal is top four in the Pac-10? No, after last season, I think the Dirty Golden Bears are solidly in the middle tier of the conference, along with Oregon State, UCLA, Arizona, and possibly Stanford (if we do well this year).

I would have passed over the two-loss teams and taken the undefeated team instead: Hawaii. LSU, Georgia, WVa, Missouri, Oklahoma, VA Tech, and USC all had the chance to earn their spot by having one fewer loss. All of them failed. You could consider Kansas, but they lost to Missouri, and so shouldn't be selected over Mizzou. IMHO, any team that goes 12-0, regardless of conference, has earned a spot in the championship game. An 11-1 team should be able to get a spot, but only if nobody's undefeated. A 10-2 team should never, ever be playing for the national championship.

^ Are you dense? Hawaii is in the WAC and plays pathetic teams. Coming out of that conference 12-0 gets you nothing but a THRASHING by Georgia. LSU deserved that spot, and proved it by throttling OSU.

And we'll talk about the "Dirty Golden Bears" when the season is over =P Good luck against TCU.

Watch out for Northwestern in this year in the big ten, tons of senior leadership at skill positions plus a favorable big ten schedule (no wisconsin or penn state) they could win 8 games and maybe more. Im not syaing national champioship or even big ten championship (not up to ohio state and illinois status yet) but they could be in a very solid bowl game and surprise a lot of people. 2-0 right now, hopein for 3-0 after siu. Of course im biased, as i am going to Nu this year haha.

Illinois status? I didn't know that one good season could get you status. I think northwestern football is very similar to illinois football is status. Northwestern should have a decent season, assuming that they play better than they did against duke. Illinois just had a fluke good year last year.

I don't think "fluke" years get you ranked Top 25..

So the spread for the OSU / USC game is 12 points...there's no way USC doesn't cover that handily if beanie wells is out. as much as i was looking forward to this game, i think its going to be a blowout.

hops_scout,

Uh, yeah, they do. Maybe you should step back and do some research before posting a comment. It doesn't even need to be a fluke season to get you ranked, it can just be a fluke game. Perfect Example: Pitt.
