Some numbers on the non-conference schedules:

Pac-10 teams play nine games in their conference. Their nonconference games this year included 14 against BCS conferences (including Notre Dame), 14 against non-BCS conferences, and 2 against FCS teams. Of the non-BCS games, half are against the Mountain West, which is far and away the best out of those five conferences.

SEC teams play eight games in their conference. Their nonconference games include 15 against BCS teams (mostly the ACC), 24 against non-BCS teams (including Western Kentucky here), and 9 against FCS teams. The non-BCS opponents were mostly from C-USA and the abysmal Sun Belt.

you can't really say right now, there are still lots of games. USC has to face Washington State this week (tough road loss for 42 points favorite ;)

What about Boise State? Even if they win all their games, they can't get to the BCS, that's kinda unfair, it's like they are faded no matter how good they are.

Quote: "Sure, they're USC. BCS LOVES putting them in places they don't deserve. Example: When they were beat by an unranked opponent, they only fell from 1 to like 8. Meanwhile, when Georgia got beat by Alabama (ranked 6 or 8 at the time), they fell down to like 11 or 12."

I think you have USC confused with Ohio State or Notre Dame. USC has never, once embarrassed themselves in a BCS game. In fact, they are 5 and 1 with that one loss coming in one of the best BCS games of all time.

Look, the Pac-10 isn't as strong as it usually is, but UCLA did beat Tennesse, Cal beat Michigan State and of course USC beat Ohio State. Also, playing in conference is harder because these coaching staffs know each other's tendencies.

I think USC, when playing its best ball, is the best team in the country. The problem is getting 18 to 22 year olds to play their best ball every week. It's really hard, just ask Florida.

Indeed, the BCS has never placed USC above where they should have been. Their BCS bowl record (5-1) has more wins than any other school (LSU and Ohio State with 4 each), but not only that but USC has a better BCS record than the entire SEC conference (11-4 = .733), with (5-1 = .833)

On the side, I'll throw in the fact that in that time span (2002-present) USC has been 4-0 against the SEC.

"And don't tell me the Big 10 doesn't benefit from games with Youngstown State, Ohio, Troy, Coastal Carolina and Syracuse."

Yes, the big 10 has padding games. The problem with the Pac 10 is that they have been losing the games that they scheduled for padding.

"Since the Rose Bowl requires it, the Beavers, should they win out, will be playing a Big-10 opponent. If the Trojans also win out, they might be selected to another BCS bowl with a major SEC or Big 12 opponent. And USC vs. Florida/Georgia/LSU/Alabama/Texas/OK? Waaaay more interesting than a USC vs. Penn State/Ohio State rematch."

Honestly, that's just your opinion. As a Penn State fan, I would much rather play Alabama or Texas as well, so I guess it goes both ways. Penn State already destroyed one Pac 10 opponent for this season, and we would do the same to USC. USC is an overrated team, that beat an overrated OSU, in a horrible conference that is only slightly better than the Big East. People were talking about how bad the ACC is this year, but no expert would say now that the Pac 10 is better than then ACC. Penn State doesn't want to play USC in the Rose Bowl anyway. The team has their sites set on the BCS title game. Thanks to Oregon state, the team we absolutely destroyed and that beat USC, as long as PSU keeps winning USC can't jump us. It will probably be Alabama vs. Penn State in the national title game. Maybe USC should join a better conference. Someone like the MWC.

It would be interesting to see Penn State vs. Alabama in the title game. Though it's a foregone prediction for anyone outside of the Big 10 that it will be yet another SEC trouncing of a Big 10 team.

^ Which is quite humorous considering that the B10 has a .500 record against the "mighty" SEC in bowl games the past 6 years (if you took out dOSU, the B10 would have a winning record).

Speaking of college football, did anyone else read or hear about the player, Trevor Wikre, of Mesa State College? The kid's pinky bone popped through his skin after catching it on a blockers jersey -- instead of missing the whole season, Wikre chose to amputate the finger in order to return to the field right away. There's some cool stuff on it -- i'll look for links or blogs and post them here later!

Sorry to be blunt, but Trevor Wikre is a moron.

Ronnie Lott of USC and the San Francisco 49ers did a similar thing in 1985, but he just had the tip of his pinkie amputated. That is a tough dude.

How about the BC Eagles getting into the Top 25 after everyone just hates on Chris Crane. I understand he is no Matt Ryan but he always finds a way to win (6-1 as a starter). They have a brutal schedule down the stretch but they just might win the division and possibly the ACC.

Personally, I would like nothing better than to see Texas Tech run the table and go to the title game. THAT would blow the minds of a lot of SEC/Texas/OK/USC fans. I have no ties whatsoever to that university but I think Coach Mike Leach is incredibe and hilarious.

I like watching Texas Tech play just as much as the next guy, but what really blows my mind is their current strength of schedule: Texas Tech (103rd), Penn State (82nd), Oklahoma State (87th) and even Alabama (53rd).

And people say USC's (13th) is weak  At least Texas' schedule (24th) has legitimacy.
