I have a quick question about college football schedules. I go to Baylor University and I was looking at the 2020 football schedule for next year. I was surprised to see that the football schedule has already been arranged for next season. I was wondering if that schedule is bound to change or is firm in the dates of the games and locations. If someone could let me know if that is a firm schedule that has already been figured out, that would be great!
The dates and locations are almost certainly locked in. Publishing them causes many parties (alumni, vendors, broadcasters) to start making commitments.
Times are listed as TBD and can change up until a week or two before the game.
It is likely that will be the schedule. Games sometimes have to be rescheduled due to weather like hurricanes, but they’ll try to stick to the schedule as best they can.
Now the time of the games? TV determines that.
Michigan just made news for canceling a home-and-home series against UCLA in the Years 2022 and 2023 for a $1.5 MM termination fee. So, the 2020 schedules are locked in.
There’s a difference between contracts to play and actual schedules. Some agreements , like Ohio State and Georgia recently signing an agreement to play in 2030 and 2031, include dates, but those are subject to change. Others are just agreements for to-be-schedule pd dates during particular seasons.
In-conference games are usually scheduled much closer to the season. My D’s school usually doesn’t publish their schedule until February
Since Baylor’s 2020 schedule is published, it’s set.
