I've heard about colleges expressly for high school students where they matriculate into them in around the 10th or 11th grades, such as Simon's Rock College of Bard. I don't get it. What do they do there, and what's the point of doing so, other than just strictly academics? Is it considered "prestigious"?

They apply, are accepted, and take classes just like any other college students. My impression is that people opt to go to Simon's Rock because they are fed up with the BS of high school and have a sincere desire to learn (as opposed to a lot of College Confidential kid type stuff eg taking AP Classes just to "look good," etc.). I am not sure if it considered "prestigious," but I will say that I doubt "seeming prestigious" is anything Simon's Rock students are concerned about...

I can't speak for Simon's Rock College of Bard, but if you're interested in something like that (skiping high school), here's a link containing general information.

My friend is applying to Simon's Rock. I talked to her and she's doing it for the new experience. I don't know my opinion is, while it sounds cool I think in general, it's rather pointless.

I've heard of the Rock College of Bard... If I remember correctly the review I read was less than favorable.

There's a post about it in the Prep School Admissions Forum.
