Hi,
I'm interested in some colleges that recommend 4 years of foreign language, but do not require it. In order to get into those colleges or at least seem like a good candidate, would I have to take 4 years of foreign language?

Short version: No.

Long version: 4 years is recommended, so it is just that. They recommend you take 4 years but it obviously isn’t required. Not having 4 years will most likely not be the reason you get rejected, if you do, hopefully you don’t. If you still feel insecure about not having 4 years, trying taking a subject test or something that shows your strength in that language.

Thanks so much!
