Well I am currently a Freshman @ Longwood University (for those who don't know, it's in a place called Farmville, VA) and to be brutally honest, I HATE it here!! I live about 3 1/2 - 4 hours away from home and I wish I were closer to the family. The school is not very diverse (im a minority) and I feel as if I can't really connect to anyone here on a personal level; even my own roommate blows me off! Plus, the classes and the teachers don't really motivate me much and all anyone likes to do here is party and get drunk. Even though I call my parents and close friends everyday, I still feel really homesick. I have met some people here, but it's not really the same.

Should I Transfer??
I'm thinking of Transferring to George Mason University or American University...but I still don't know. HELP!!

Sounds like you don't have a good match in your choice! Do you feel better at your other choices? If so, DO IT! The right fit makes all the difference.

Actually, during my fall break, I decided to go and visit the George Mason Campus and it was AMAZING! The only that really worries me about GMU are the dorms and the financial aid...b/c i've heard from some people that the financial aid package sucks and the dorms are supposed to be super small.

but to answer your question, I did feel better at GMU
I haven't checked out AU yet.

i think you should wait until the end of the year. get really involved, do the best you can, and just remember, you're not stuck there. im in the same situation, i wasnt sure when to transfer, but i decided to stick it out the whole year. now im actually have a pretty good time...im still transferring because social reasons is not the only reason i dont like here, but i can make it the year. also it'll be easier to fit in next year when you're with all the new freshman and stuff. i think fall is an easier adjustment. and also high school is consiered less and less the older you get.

You would have a hard time transferring after one semester. Not impossible, but you may not get the results you'd like to see. You are better off waiting until the spring to apply for the fall, and in the meantime try to put as much into liking it as you can. It seems like financial aid is a concern for you too, and you would probably receive less of it when transferring mid-year.

As for sororities, they are a great way to make friends easily, but some (not all!) can be very very time consuming. Just something to keep in mind. If you decide to check them out, try to get a feel for how many mandatory obligations you will have every week and make sure you can handle that and classes.

If you do decide to apply to transfer later in the year, you might also want to have a more affordable school in mind that you know you would be happy at. That way if the financial aid doesn't work out at GMU, you still have options that might be more appealing than your current school.
