Does anyone attend a University/College in a huge city/metro area? If so, do you like it? What's the security like?

Thanks! :)

This is a very broad question. We can list you many colleges.

Well I realize that there are many colleges that fit that description, but I was looking for someone who personally attends one of them so they could tell me if they enjoy it or if it's a pain.

If what you are looking for is safety::crime stats are all available. Metro campus is a delight and so is the city.

i attend Howard University in Washington, DC..Its really not that bad, even though some people wanted to make me think it was the most horrible place on earth...you will be ok wherever you go as long as you use a little logic like not walking from the subway alone at 1 am with a swarovski crystal studded Sidekick II and $300 shoes....it is a good idea to know the area well before venturing off on your own and, if possible, take a friend along with you...i love my school and the neighborhood....it is so easy to access so many things. i hope you enjoy your urban college experience..

YAY HOWARD.. thats where i wanna go. my first choice actually

Cool...I hope to see you on campus..I'm here for a summer pre.college program but ill be a freshman in the fall...its really cool here and quite different from any college campus I've ever been on..I can truly say that it is a unique place, although it does have its quirks. Feel free to email me brandedbison@tmail.com

I attend THE Ohio State University. Crime has never been a problem for me. We have had alot of robberies and such (especially in the Spring). The opportunities for internships in the big cities is awesome. I really enjoyed the big city and don't see myself in a small town. You have so many things to do in big cities it is an awesome place to be.

I will be attending Wayne State University in downtown Detroit. We'll see how it goes this fall. :)

Glad to hear all positive responses - I am really excited about going to the University of Pittsburgh here in Pennsylvania - it's not NYC, but it's definitely better than the small town I am living in now. They have this partnership set up with all of the buslines in Pittsburgh so that you can go anywhere you want, whenever you want, all fare-free. The city scene is really where it's at - you'll never be bored, that's for sure.

*** I was just at Washington, D.C about a week ago - I don't remember the exact name, but I think I saw a college that was named "The University of Washington" - is that correct? It was sort of small...

cool...may have been George Washington University...

Hey - anyone going to attend college in Philadelphia (i.e - Temple, Saint Joseph's University, etc.)? I hear it's pretty violate over there... :O

Are you meaning violent? As in crime? It is like most other cities.....do you live in a city? Is your city violent? The biggest problem Philly has is that suburban kids come here and think they are at a mall........

Opps I didn't see the typo - yea I hear that you definitely wanna park your car somewhere off of the street...like in a secure parking garage or else you'll awaken the next morning to a burning, smoldering piece of scrap metal. lol :D :D

Why do you think you need a car in Philly? Are you from a metro area? You may want to have your car there but you don't NEED a car.....public transport + cabs are easy, fast, cheap and you don't need to worry about a DUI or driving drunk etc etc etc.

Also.....I prefer to think of crime as being against the person if you are worried about your college experience.

So.....is it a fun sports car? Join a frat and use their lot....easy and cheap.

No, no I know you don't need a car - I probably won't keep a car in Pittsburgh anyway (not with free unlimited bus transport :D ) - I am going to stay as far away from fraternities as possible... 8)

I guess I thought you were asking about Philly but now you are speaking Pittsburgh.....oh well. I know zip about Pitt.

alot of out-of-state kids at usc are quite scared, since they're blocks away from south LA. lots of girls carry mase, because there have been a couple of rapes in the past years. however, secutiry is pretty tight.
