Neighborhood

How is the area around campus? Is there good transit to the rest of DC?

Have been there in year. I recall it being a rather rough area of town, but plenty of public transit. Many HBCUs are in kind of tough areas (Moorehouse/Spellman, JCSU, etc.). I would be interested in hearing from Howard students whether their school is isolated from the high crime or if they feel an exceptional need to keep themselves safe.

Yeah , I’ve wondered about this too even though like taben1112 said , hbcu’s are in rough areas but i know a lot of them don’t have too much crime.

When people talk about how bad the neighborhood at certain college/university I always laugh. I mean, no school is going to have the perfect atmosphere. If you aren’t used to noise at night, stores on every corner, maybe a few dope fiends (excuse my bluntness), a sense of crowded-ness, and some trash here or there then the neighborhood may seem rough to you, but most of us who live in the urban section of big cities are used to this (speaking generally, not directly to the posters)

The area around Howard isn’t all that bad though, contrary to popular belief. Just like when people hear Temple or Rutgers-Newark, they automatically assume the area is bad because of the cities they’re in, but if you actually see it and experience it, its not totally bad.

As for the transit, I heard the metro is great, but also expensive.

I was just curious because I’m not use to big cities. I’m from a medium sized city. That’s why I asked.

i probably sounded too introverted and mean in that post lol, i didnt mean it that way…which city are you from? and I mean, DC is huge…but Howard is only in a section of DC…think of it as the cake, and then the piece of the cake that they cut out for you to eat lol, the other parts of DC probably wouldn’t even have an affect on you…I technically live in a big city (which is way smaller than DC btw) and I have still yet to ride down/experience every street in it lol

Lol It’s Okay &Oh all right , but i’m from winston salem nc. (where wake forest is)
