College-in-the-Woods CIW Dorming - Some questions.

My friend suggested to select CIW for housing for my first semester. I was wondering if anyone has any opinions on this choice (good or bad), and I have a few questions.

Which building in CIW would be best? (I heard Oneida back entrance smells like pot) and corners of every building is cold?

Is the walk from CIW to academic buildings long? (approximately how long, and is it long compared to other communities)

Bathroom situation - I am a guy ... how are the bathrooms there? (clean, dirty, cramped up, small, big, not a lot of stalls or showers?)

Room space: compared to other dorms, are they big or small? How much can you fit inside? Are there any floor plans available for me to see the layout of the bedroom? (I plan to live in a double)

Dining hall - how is it, compared to other dining halls? (space-wise, crowded or not, good food?)

Distance to other communities (I will probably know people who live in other communities - how is the distance to the other dorms?)

How social is CIW, in general? Are people anti-social like what I've heard about Moutainview? Are there a lot of potheads and people that drink like Newing? Just wondering ...

Is it quiet? I would prefer to be able to study in my own room without always having to go to the library or study lounge - how are quiet hours enforced?

What are the pros and cons you have with CIW? I'd prefer the answerer to be someone who has lived in and experienced CIW. Thank you!

In all honesty, I’m not a fan of CIW even though I had put it first on my housing last year… I ended up in my third choice - Newing, and I love it so much I’m going to live there in the Fall too.

I’ll answer your questions regarding it though -
Mohawk is best, but it’s mostly for athletes I think. It’s the newest, and basically looks like a Mountainview building.

The walk for me, in Newing (which is FURTHER than CIW) to get to the lecture hall at MOST is 10 minutes. You can basically get anywhere on campus in 10 - 15 minutes.

Can’t tell you about male bathrooms sorry… I’m a girl.

Room space - the CIW rooms are TINY. I’m sure you can find a type of floor plan on the reslife website, and you can’t plan to live in a double, you could be trippled. Though I don’t know if they tripple in CIW…

Dining hall - It’s nice, but you can always eat there even if you don’t live there. The food is generally the same at every dining hall, with exceptions when it comes to salad bars or specialty stations.

CIW is pretty central on campus, so it’s not too far from any dorm in particular. And you never know if people will end up determing your room to be the hang out room.

Haha, “potheads and people that drink like Newing” - You’re going to find people that fit whatever community’s stereotype within whatever community. But in all honesty, as long as you’re not in Delaware or Bingham, the other buildings in newing don’t have sorority girls in them…And Newing is very social, and isolated, but not in a bad way. It’s got it’s own little cranny of campus. PLUS we’re getting new buildings, so you can get the nicest dorms on campus.

Quiet hours vary from floor to floor really, not even building wise… It really can vary. And sometimes I can study in my room without a problem, and other times I head to the study lounge, which isn’t a big deal, it’s literally down the hall.

Sorry that I haven’t lived in CIW, but I hope that I’ve given you some more help in housing.
