I have never been interviewed for anything, and I have my Georgetown interview this week. It’s at the alum’s house and I have no idea what to expect or say. Do I bring a resume? Do I dress up? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Yorkie97 This is what I do, helping kids get ready for these interviews. The first thing you want to do is make a list of all the things you have accomplished in your life that you are proud of. Ok, not all of them, lets go with ten or fifteen. Some academic, some athletic, or extra curric, or summer job, or creative or social, anything you pulled off and if it took some work to do it, then these are the best .
Now is there a theme? Some quality, that defines you, which explains at least some portion of that success? Can you put it into a phrase, something that would be a good way to describe who you are at the core? Here’s the thing, the first real question (after the chit chat and hows the drive over, any trouble finding me stuff) then here it comes, Either, “why do you want to go to Georgetown” or “can you tell me a little about yourself” or some version of an open-ended question. This is when you want to respond with the theme idea. Yhen give two or three examples of how this has been traced by two or three achievements from the brainstorming list above.
OK, I have more advice. There is an article posted on my website: iscAcademy.org. If you go there, read “Developing your personal story” that’s what I was sort of short cutting for you here, and then “targets and Arrows.” These two articles will really set you up. If you have time, I would also suggest another, “Yes, there are dumb Questions” just let me know if you want to go over any of this stuff. I’d be happy to do a FREE mock interview with you if you like. Check out the website, and if you’re interested, give me a call.
Either way, I hope this helps, and good luck.
