Hi all,
I am not quite sure where to begin the college search. Although I have done some research and compiled a list of schools, I still am unsure and looking for guidance.
I am a white female from a top suburban high school; however, I used to attend a sub- par ruralish school with a lot less opportunities as far as classes and that has put me at a disadvantage. I have a 32 ACT, but a 33 superscore. 4.02 weighted GPA, 3.73 unweighted GPA (slight downward trend since freshman year) . I have taken 3 AP classes so far and received a 4 on each of them and I will have taken 6 in total by the time I graduate. I am just outside the top 10%
I am a club athlete (not wanting to continue in college) and I spend 20 hours per week at practice and workouts. I have reached a very high level and will most likely compete internationally representing the USA this year. In addition, I have participated in multiple week long mission trips with around 75 volunteer hours outside of those trips. In school, I am involved in a few random clubs (no leadership)
I will be a finance major in college and I am looking to attend a medium sized school (4,000- 15,000 students) that is preferably not urban or on the West coast. Cost is not an issue.
Any advice for my application/ college list would be very much appreciated! Thank you!!

Hey there! I would definitely look into the schools I put below as you fit into the averages for all of them, giving you a pretty good chance of being accepted as long as you establish you character in essays and interviews. Overall, you’ll have a hard time finding a finance school that is not urban that is within your range GPA wise. Your ACT score is great for some of the top schools, but the GPA needs to be boosted this coming semester if possible.
LIST:
NYU (#2 in finance - New York obviously)
Carnegie Mellon University (#10 in finance - Pittsburgh, PA)
University of Virginia (#9 in finance - Charlottesville, VA), but note your GPA is on the lower side, but your ACT score is way above average, therefore you could be a strong candidate.
University of Michigan (#9 as a tie - Ann Arbor, MI), again note your GPA is not much lower, but your ACT score again is above the average.
Hope this list helps a bit, chose some from the top you might enjoy looking at, despite your lack of interest in urban environments. Let me know how it goes!
It is better if you provide the list of universities you are considering, and then let people comment on that list and add to it. There are hundreds of universities that would admit you that are not urban or on the west coast and that offer a finance major and are in the size range you suggest. So we need a little more information to be able to make suitable recommendations. Seeing what specific universities you are already considering will provide the right clues.
College Budget? Home State?
Knowing what you and your parents can afford will be the #1 determining factor in selecting a college. You need to know if you are looking for good need-based and/or merit based aid.
