Has anyone that is going to High Point in the fall started to do anything in regards to loans? I know we've received the financial packages but when will you start to fill out the paper work for loans?

I've never been involved in the process, I'm looking for advice on how to go about it. Which lender will you use for your private loans?

My son will be a freshman at HPU in the fall so we are certainly not experts in this subject but my son has completed the Stafford Loan and I am in the process of completing the PLUS loan for parents. Since the government has taken over the student loan process, they are the only lender available. You can get a private loan from any bank, but it will more than likely be at a higher interest rate and cannot be designated as a ‘student’ loan.

The government website - www.studentloans.gov - has just made the PLUS loan available today for parents to apply. To say they are having some difficulty with their website would be an understatement. They are working out quite a few bugs, according to them, but should have everything running smoothly within the next few days.

The Stafford loan is available for students and seems to run smoothly. My son completed his application on the 14th of April and received his confirmation of receipt the next day. He forwarded all the paperwork to the Financial Aid Office and they have him ready to go.

The one good thing about HPU is that they’ve signed up with the government loan program. From what I was told, many colleges have not yet done so. Until they do, no PLUS loan can be processed.

For any specific questions you may have, the Financial Aid Office has been wonderful in responding quickly and providing very useful answers/assistance.

My s received the revised paperwork soon after the law changed. We had not done anything with it until last night. The site worked great - no cliches.
